NSW Public Service Talent Pools For NSW Government agencies, the Public Service Talent Pools offer a time and cost-effective way to recruit for commonly needed roles across the sector. Agencies can access pre-qualified candidates who have been rigorously assessed and have met the standards needed to perform a role. Candidates in these pools are eligible for various roles across NSW Government and ready to be hired straight away.

How to hire from the Public Service talent pools 1 • Review the role requirements in your role description and identify the Public Service talent pool that is most suited to the role you are trying to fill • Obtain approval to fill the role 3 5 • Obtain current referee • Raise a requisition in your recruitment system • Complete two or more referee checks for any chosen candidate, and other pre-employment checks (if applicable) 4 • Invite candidates in for an informal interview so you can determine their fit for the role 2 details from preferred candidate(s) • Review and contact talent pool candidates using our online system. Further details about the system can be found on our website. • At this stage, you can conduct an additional assessment (if required) 6 • Make an offer to your preferred candidate(s) • Once start dates are confirmed, finalise your request using the online system
Assessment and selection process Grade 3/4 and 5/6 talent pool Stage 1 – Online Application PSI Basic Skills Tests — This capability based assessment is a series of tests that are designed to measure language skills, numerical ability, reasoning and perceptual ability. Candidates complete 5 basic skills tests measuring the following: Reading comprehension Decision making Ability to follow written instructions Computer Skills Commitment to Customer Service Situational Judgment — This capability based assessment is a customised tool that measures the aspect of verbal reasoning that encompasses the ability to make decisions and demonstrate sound judgement based on written information. Targeted Questions — This screening tool seeks to capture motivation for working in NSW Government and alignment to values. Stage 2 – Pre Assessment Centre Stage 3 – Assessment Centre • Prior to attending the assessment centres all candidates completed a Hogan personality assessment. • At the assessment centres all candidates completed a series of bespoke capability based assessments designed to assess specific capabilities and provide realistic job preview. • Structured interview: Capability based assessment that provides a standardised and equitable way of evaluating capabilities. Group activity: Capability based assessment that ensures broader capability is evaluated in the context of a group setting. Role play: Bespoke capability based assessment designed to measure specific capabilities in the context of customer service and to provide realistic job preview. Candidates complete 3 basic skills tests measuring the following: • Reading comprehension • Decision making • Forms checking Stage 3 – Assessment Centre • Prior to attending the virtual assessment centre, all candidates completed a personality questionnaire. • At the virtual assessment centres all candidates completed two bespoke capability-based assessments designed to assess specific capabilities and provide realistic job preview: • Structured interview – A capability-based assessment that provides a standardised and equitable way of evaluating capabilities. • Work Simulation activity – A capability-based assessment designed to measure specific capabilities in the context of a customer service and data entry, designed to provide realistic preview.
