Four-Year NROTC National Scholarship SOURCE OF THE FORCE Ø Applicants recruited by CNRC Ø Specific Minimum Criteria: ü SAT: 530 Critical Reading/520 Math (1050) or ü ACT: 22 English/22 Math (44) ü No minimum GPA, no required high school class rank ü Cannot already be in NROTC College Program Ø Mostly high school students Ø CNP has authorized NNOA to endorse up to ten students for the four year scholarship. 3

Ø Specific Criteria: ü SAT: • 530 Critical Reading Minimum or ACT 22 English • 650 Math Minimum or ACT 29 Math • 1290 Composite Minimum ü Top 20% of High School Class ü Cannot already be in NROTC College Program ü Must meet height/weight standards ü No drug use or DUI/DWI Ø CNRC limited to 150 ISD selects (annually) Ø NNOA limited to 10 ISD selects (annually) 4

Application Process Applicant Actions SOURCE OF THE FORCE Ø Goes on-line completes and submits electronic application ü Electronic application includes: • Personal data • Activities (athletic and non-athletic) • 5 Essay questions • Print and sign the statement of understanding Ø Provides names and school addresses of 3 teachers ü Must include math and English teachers and then may select a teacher, counselor, coach or employer (science vice math for nurse option applicants) Ø Releases SAT/ACT test scores to the appropriate code Ø Completes additional forms and actions as requested by recruiter Ø Should follow-up on progress of application 12

Application Process Recruiter Actions SOURCE OF THE FORCE Ø Goes on-line to review list of new applications Ø Contacts applicant Ø Prints letters to the 3 teachers and the school with directions regarding completion of the evaluations and the school data form Ø Determines if applicant has qualifying test scores Ø Arranges for an Officer Interview for minimally qualified applicants Ø Ensures applicant signs drug/debarment statement Ø Ensures applicant completes the Strong Interest Inventory Ø Forwards all paper portions of the application by mail and electronic portions by computer to CNRC 13

Scholarship Selection Notification Process SOURCE OF THE FORCE Ø “Select scores” are set and then decreased throughout the year Ø Many students go into “hold” status Ø At end of application deadline – first “non-selects” announced Ø Applicants are kept informed through the website Ø Selects must still be found physically qualified and be admitted to assigned school Ø Some school changes are approved (e. g. , available quotas, significant hardship) Ø Non-select lists are shared with NROTC units, CNRC and USNA 15

Placement SOURCE OF THE FORCE Ø NROTC Unit schools are capped for incoming scholarship freshmen (Navy + Marine Corps + Nurse) Ø Assignments based on historical show rate at each school Ø Recipients may transfer scholarship to another school if room is available. Ø Initial placement is done by NSTC based on: ü Individual’s preferences ü Quotas available. 16
