Some Experiences • Native IPv 6 Network – Large scale IPv 6 addressing and routing • Authentic IPv 6 Addressing Architecture – SAVA: Source Address Validation Architecture – IETF working group SAVI: a new IETF working group in 2008 – RFC 5210 • IPv 4 over IPv 6: transition from IPv 4 to IPv 6 – IETF working group Softwire: a new IETF working group in 2006 – RFC 4925, RFC 5565, RFC 5747 • Many Technologies and Applications July 13, 2010 NSF IRNC Kickoff
CERNET/CERNET 2 Experiences • Strong basic infrastructure – Own a dark fibers and network: 30000 km + DWDM • Advanced network environment for the innovation of research and education – students and faculties • Test bed for Next Generation/Future Internet technology and applications – Large scale Internet test bed for IETF Standard – IPv 4/IPv 6 Coexistence and Transition • International Collaborations – MOU with Internet 2 in 2000,MOU with GENI in 2010 July 13, 2010 NSF IRNC Kickoff
Challenges of APAN • Stronger linkages between applications and infrastructure - neither can exist independently • Stronger application and infrastructure linkages – among APAN members – International partners: Internet 2, GEANT 2 and …… • Continuing focus on APAN as an organization that represents infrastructure interests in Asia Pacific • Closer connection between APAN in the infrastructure & applications organization and regional political organizations July 13, 2010 NSF IRNC Kickoff
Future of NREN’s in Asia Pacific • Part of global Cyberinfrastructure in the world – Connect all of research and education communities – Global innovation environment of science and engineering • Part of large scale testbed for Future Internet technology and applications in the world – Network technolgies: Scalable, High performance, Security, Mobile, Real time, Management, …… – Revolution application • Connect another 1 billion students – Many countries in Central Asia and North Asia – Remove digital divide in the 21 Century July 13, 2010 NSF IRNC Kickoff
