November CUB AWARD CEREMONIES DURING COVID PANDEMIC Blue & Golds & Crossovers/Bridgings 2020
BLUE & GOLD CEREMONIES The proverbial Cub Scout celebration ADD A FOOTER 2
WHAT IS A BLUE & GOLD? While many seem to profess that the Blue & Gold Ceremony is to celebrate the anniversary of Scouting - that’s not the true intent • While the BSA’s birthday may be an additional reason to host the banquet, theme of the day is celebrating the pack’s anniversary and everyone involved in making Scouting possible for members of the pack. SHOULD OUR PACK DO INPERSON OR VIRTUAL? That depends on the comfort level of your parents- ask before you decide! Some Packs have sent out a brief online survey to gather input from families on what they are comfortable with ADD A FOOTER 4
BLUE & GOLDS WHICH OPTION IS THE BEST OPTION? In-Person Easy to plan Similar to previous year’s planning Exciting for the Scouts More fun to plan Requires less technology Virtual Easy to plan No/low cost Not as exciting for the Scouts Not always easy to translate from in -person to virtual Requires good/smart use of technology ADD A FOOTER 5
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND • • Can be done entirely by ZOOM or other video software Keep it to 45 minutes or less Keep it moving at all times Always have a back up plan The goofier it is, the better/ Make them laugh Get help from the Scouts BSA troops near you Use the Breakout Rooms to your advantage ADD A FOOTER 6

CROSSOVER/ BRIDGING CEREMONIES IS IT OKAY TO HOLD A BLUE & GOLD AND CROSSOVER AT THE SAME TIME? • THE ANSWER MAY BE YES, OR NO • SOME HOLD SEPARATE CEREMONIES DUE TO THE TIME INVOLVED • SOME LIKE TO “GET IT ALL DONE IN ONE” SO THEY DO BOTH IN ONE EVENT • ASK YOUR AOL LEADERS WHAT THEY WANT FOR THEIR SCOUTS ADD A FOOTER 13
IDEAS FOR CROSSOVERS/BRIDGINGS • Have each Den Leader film their AOL’s being presented with their AOL rank either at home or at a local park • Have parents do face painting for their Scouts • you could set up your actual crossover bridge at a local park or someone’s backyard and film the whole event • Make sure you ask your local Troop to be present to welcome the Scouts • You could ask the parents to be present to remove the AOL neckerchief/scarf and have the Boy Scouts place the Troop one on each Scout (use facemasks/shields) • Have someone film the whole event, then you could show parts of this to the other parents at the BNG (don’t show the whole thing…too long) ADD A FOOTER 14
