Prelude “Prelude” ~Gordon Young Lighting of the candles
SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 34: 1 -8
Of David, when he feigned madness before Abimelech, so that he drove him out, and he went away. I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad.
O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. Look to him, and be radiant; so your faces shall never be ashamed. This poor soul cried, and was heard by the Lord, and was saved from every trouble.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. O taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are those who take refuge in him.
*CALL TO WORSHIP L: We will bless the Lord at all times; God’s praise will always be in our mouths. P: Together, let us magnify the Lord, let us sing God’s name in praise.
L: Look to him, sisters and brothers, and be radiant. P: When we seek the Lord, he answers and delivers us.
L: O taste and see that the Lord is good! Happy are those who turn to him. P: The Lord redeems and rescues the lives of his servants. Let us respond with joy and with song!
*HYMN #2128 “Come and Find the Quiet Center” v. 1 Come and find the crowded center in the crowded life we lead, find the room for hope to enter, find the frame where we are freed:
*HYMN #2128 “Come and Find the Quiet Center” v. 1 Clear the chaos and the clutter, clear our eyes that we can see all the things that really matter, be at peace, and simply be.
*HYMN #2128 “Come and Find the Quiet Center” v. 2 Silence is a friend who claims us, cools the heat and slows the pace, God it is who speaks and names us, knows our being, touches base,
*HYMN #2128 “Come and Find the Quiet Center” v. 2 Making space within our thinking, lifting shades to show the sun, raising courage when we’re shrinking, finding scope for faith begun.
*HYMN #2128 “Come and Find the Quiet Center” v. 3 In the Spirit let us travel, open to each other’s pain, let our loves and fears unravel, celebrate the space we gain:
*HYMN #2128 “Come and Find the Quiet Center” v. 3 There’s a place for deepest dreaming, there’s a time for heart to care, in the Spirit’s lively scheming there is always room to spare.
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) Gracious and holy God, we admit that it is easier to have hurtful words on our lips than to offer praise for one another.
Too often our foolishness keeps us from seeing the deep hurts and hunger of those suffering around us. We stand by the side of the road, afraid to step forward in faith;
afraid to trust that you are with us. We know we need your mercy. We ask that you forgive our faithlessness, our fears, and our hurts. Healer of all, we lift our hearts and souls to you,
that through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we might find your grace, discover your love in forgiveness, and serve your people in your name.
Silence is observed for individual reflection and prayer.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Take heart: God hears your prayers. Get up: God has healed your brokenness and calls to you with hope, with forgiveness, with new life.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON P: Now, our eyes are opened and we can see; now, our ears are opened and we can hear; now, we can follow Christ into the kingdom.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON Thanks be to God, we are forgiven. Amen.
CHOIR ANTHEM “We Gather at the Table” ~Martin
PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Mark 10: 46 -52
They came to Jericho. As he and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout and say, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’
Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!’ Jesus stood still and said, ‘Call him here. ’ And they called the blind man, saying to him, ‘Take heart; get up, he is calling you. ’ So throwing off his cloak,
he sprang up and came to Jesus. Then Jesus said to him, ‘What do you want me to do for you? ’ The blind man said to him, ‘My teacher, let me see again. ’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your faith has made you well. ’ Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.
L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!

Service of Baptism for Karyn Ryan Jones & Ron Jones
Hear the Words of our Lord Jesus Christ: All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have
commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Obeying the Word of Our Lord Jesus, and confident of His promises, we baptize those whom God has called. In baptism God claims us, and seals us to show that we belong to
God. God frees us from sin and death, uniting us with Jesus Christ in his death and resurrection. By water and the Holy Spirit, we are made members of the church, the body of Christ, and are joined to Christ’s ministry of love, peace, and justice. Let us, each and every one, remember with
joy our own baptism, as we celebrate this sacrament. ELDER: On behalf of the Session, I present Ron Jones and Karyn Ryan. Jones to receive the Sacrament of Baptism.
QUESTIONS
Ron and Karyn, putting your whole trust in the grace and love of Jesus Christ, do you desire to be baptized? I DO.
Do you, as members of the church of Jesus Christ, promise to guide and nurture Ron and Karyn by word and deed, with love and prayer? Congregation: WE DO.
Will you encourage them to know and follow Christ and to be faithful members of Christ’s church? Congregation: WE WILL.
PROFESSION OF FAITH
Through baptism we enter the covenant God has established in Jesus Christ. Within this covenant God claims us as God’s own child and gives us new life, strengthens us to resist evil, and nurtures us in love.
In embracing that covenant, we choose whom we will serve, by turning away from evil, and turning toward Jesus Christ. I ask you, therefore, to reject sin, to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, and to confess the faith of the church, the faith in which we baptize.
RENUNCIATIONS & AFFIRMATIONS
Ron and Karyn, trusting in the gracious mercies of God, do you turn from the ways of sin, and renounce evil, and its power in the world, which resist God’s love? I RENOUNCE THEM.
Do you turn to Jesus Christ and accept him as your Lord and Savior? I DO. Will you be Christ’s faithful disciple, obeying his word and showing his love? I WILL.
Will you devote yourself to the church’s teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers? I WILL, WITH GOD’S HELP.
PROFESSION
With the whole congregation, let us confess our faith. Do you believe in God the Father Almighty? I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ? I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he was raised; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
Do you believe in the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
THANKSGIVING OVER THE WATER
We give you thanks, Eternal God, for you nourish and sustain all living things by the gift of water. In the beginning of time, your Spirit moved over the watery chaos, calling forth order and life. In the time of Noah, you destroyed evil by the waters of the flood, giving righteousness a new
beginning. You led Israel out of slavery through the waters of the sea, into the freedom of the Promised Land. In the waters of the Jordan, you claimed Jesus as he was baptized by John and anointed with your Holy Spirit. By the baptism of his own death and resurrection, Christ has set us free
from sin and death, and opened the way to eternal life. We thank you, O God, for the Water of baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. From it we are raised to share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Gracious God, pour out your Spirit upon us and upon this water, that it may be your womb of deliverance and new birth for Ron and Karyn. Wash away the sin of all who are cleansed by it. Raise them to new life and graft them to the body of Christ. Pour out your Holy Spirit on Ron and Karyn,
that they may have the power to do your will, and continue forever in the risen life of Christ. To you be all praise, honor, and glory; through Jesus Christ our Savior, who, with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns forever. ALL: AMEN.
THE BAPTISM
Ron, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Karyn, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Congregation: AMEN.
THE BLESSING
O Lord, uphold Ron and Karyn by your Holy Spirit. Give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, both now and forever. AMEN.
Ron and Karyn, children of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit in baptism, and marked as Christ’s own forever. AMEN.
WELCOME
Ron and Karyn, you have been received into the one holy universal and apostolic church through baptism. By the power of the Holy Spirit, you have become members of the household of God, to share with us in the ministry of Christ and the priesthood of all believers.
With joy and thanksgiving we welcome you into the body of Christ. Alleluia! Amen! Live as a child of the light and let your light shine before others. Amen.
The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.
Congregation: With joy and thanksgiving, we welcome Ron and Karyn into Christ’s church to share with us in his ministry, for we are all one in Christ.
May God remind us of the promises given in our own baptism, and renew our trust in God that we may be made strong to obey God’s will, and to serve God with joy; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
