Goal: Copy as warm-up Our goal is to understand what was needed to create early human settlements. How did we stop wandering the land, looking for food and shelter, and instead settle down and create farms and communities?
Vocabulary: Paleolithic: The Old Stone Age, when people hunted and gathered their food, moving from place to place. Shelter was often found in caves. Neolithic: The New Stone Age, when people learned to farm (agriculture) and settled down in one place. Neo means “new. ”
Vocabulary (add to notes) Agriculture: The business of farming: raising animals and growing crops. Domesticate: To train a wild animal to be useful to humans.

December 5, 2017 1) Summarize the first problem of the Mesopotamians and how this led people to “the land between the rivers. ”
Problem #1 People farming in the foothills did not have enough land to farm food for their large population. There was a shortage of food. Solution: They moved to the plains near the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Here, there was land to farm and plenty of water. DON’T FORGET THE DRAWING!

Def: Civilization A centralized society with developed forms of religion and ways of governing, and learning. To have a civilization and not just a farming community, organized religion and government are key!
Def: Technology The skill and knowledge to make products or meet goals is called technology. This means that the ability to make things that make life easier is called technology. (ex: tools, equipment, building methods, eventually computers etc. )
