" Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair <stuart. kerry@philips. com> as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802. 11 Working Group. November 2006 doc. : IEEE 802. 11 -06/1567 r 0 Process Notes (modifications in red) • Note: The black text is from 06/976 r 0, the existing down selection procedure document • Step 9: includes getting comments from no voters etc. • Step 10: can start once one or more clusters have been addressed (i. e. a single solution for a particular cluster has been selected and confirmed). – This step was triggered with the votes in July 2006 for emergency call and network selection, and the September 2006 vote on MIH • Step 11 (now step 16): includes checking all mandatory requirements have been met. – Mandatory requirement check has moved to step 13 • At the start of each meeting; the latest draft document produced by editor should be confirmed, plus have a confirmation vote to approve the latest draft. November 2006 doc. : IEEE 802. 11 -06/1567 r 0 Process Notes (New Steps) • Step 11: This happens between meetings, so that there is a baseline draft in place. Meetings start here. • Step 12: Includes proposals for unaddressed requirements, as well as text from new technical presentations • Step 13: The TG votes on whether to move to internal review (majority vote) – If there is an unaddressed mandatory requirement, the TG can vote to retain it by a 75% vote. If the requirement fails to get 75%, it will be removed and we go to internal review • Step 16 -18 work like an informal letter ballot within the TG, ending when the TG concludes with a 75% vote to move the draft to the working group for letter ballot Submission 5 Matthew Gast, Trapeze
