November 2000 doc. : IEEE 802. 15 -00/395 r 0 Background on Study Group Motion • TG 3 selected a MAC and 2. 4 gig PHY as the Baseline for the High Rate WPAN Standard. • A significant 5 gig faction emerged during the selection process. • To reduce the potential of random fragmentation it was deemed better to form a Study Group which could be closely tied to the 5 Gig SG of 802. 11 which could look at options for a 5 gig PHY for 802. 15. 3 Submission 5 Robert F. The study group will work closely with the 802. 11/ETSIBRAN/MMAC 5 GHz Study Group to ensure coexistence.
