Prelude “Trumpet in Dialogue” ~Clerambault Lighting of the candles
SCRIPTURE READING: Isaiah 1: 10 -20
Hear the word of the Lord, you rulers of Sodom! Listen to the teaching of our God, you people of Gomorrah! What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices? says the Lord; I have had enough of burnt-offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts; I do not delight in the blood of bulls,
or of lambs, or of goats. When you come to appear before me, who asked this from your hand? Trample my courts no more; bringing offerings is futile; incense is an abomination to me. New moon and sabbath and calling of convocation –
I cannot endure solemn assemblies with iniquity. Your new moons and your appointed festivals my soul hates; they have become a burden to me, I am weary of bearing them. When you stretch out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen;
your hands are full of blood. Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow. Come now, let us argue it out, says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be like snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
*CALL TO WORSHIP L: Barukh atah Adonai Eloheinu, Melekh ha’olam. P: Blessed are you, O Lord our God, sovereign of the Universe.
L: God, as we gather, we ask that you make your presence felt in our hearts this hour. P: Help us experience the depth of your Spirit as we come together in your house to worship you.
L: Help us today to learn to do the actions you desire; P: To learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow.
L: Holy One, hear the heart of our praises this hour. P: May you be honored and pleased by the truth of our worship this day.

*HYMN #215 “Come, Sing with Joy to God” v. 3 Our God and Lord alone, through all the years the same, You feed us, take us by the hand, call each by name.

*HYMN #215 “Come, Sing with Joy to God” v. 4 We ask for sight, Your restore, And we shall praise you evermore.
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) Holiest of All, we confess that we want to honor and worship you, but the truth is we offer you the shallow sacrifices we want, not the
deep that you desire. Silent prayer We confess that too often we fall short of your intentions for us. We yearn to touch the world with goodness and kindness, but
instead we offer criticism and hurt. Silent prayer We seek to live with honesty, integrity, and stand for truth, but instead choose our own gain. Silent prayer
We would love others, but we hesitate, wondering if they will love us in return. Silent prayer We desire to bring confidence and joy to our daily tasks, but instead we let
the struggles of the day make us grouchy and miserable toward all those we meet. Silent prayer We need your presence, O God, if we are to be what we could be and
want to be. We need our hearts healed and transformed by your love. So we ask you to wash us and make us clean; that you forgive us, and renew us, that we may go out in joy and bring your
peace, led by the power of your Spirit. Silence is observed for individual reflection and prayer.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Sisters and Brothers, we are blessed. God invites us in, and offers to make our scarlet sins white like snow.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON P: Because we serve and belong to such a loving, forgiving God, we bless and thank him for all his goodness.

PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 19: 1 -10
He entered Jericho and was passing through it. A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax-collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree
to see him, because he was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today. ’ So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. All who sad it began to grumble and said,
‘He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner. ’ Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, ‘Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much. ’ Then Jesus said to him,
‘Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost. ’ L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!
