Prelude “When in Our Music God is Glorified” ~Stanford Lighting of the candles
SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 17: 1 -9
Hear a just cause, O Lord; attend to my cry; give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit. From you let my vindication come; let your eyes see the right. If you try my heart, if you visit me by night, if you test me, you will find no wickedness in me; my mouth does not transgress.
As for what others do, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent. My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped. I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me, hear my words. Wondrously show your steadfast love,
O savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand. Guard me as the apple of the eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings, from the wicked who despoil me, my deadly enemies who surround me.
*CALL TO WORSHIP L: Take courage, all you people. P: Take courage, says the Holy One, for I am with you. L: Do not be afraid, for God’s Spirit is with us.
P: The Holy One watches over all who come in love. L: Let our mouths speak the praise of God. P: Let us bless God’s holy name forever and ever.

*HYMN #464 “Joyful, We Adore Thee” v. 3 Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife, Joyful music leads us sunward in the triumph song of life.
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) God, we look around us and see a world on edge. Along with remembrances of wars and troubles past, we have awareness of current conflicts,
economic uncertainty, political instability, changing climate patterns, and unpredictable consequences of our consumption. These difficulties give us reasons to
rebuild relationships between nations, between individuals, and between ourselves and creation. We recall your will and purpose that we live in peace and justice, sharing the
bounty and blessings of your world, ensuring that needs are met for the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of all your children. We also recognize how far short we come and how
much we need to work with you in rebuilding and reclaiming the vision you gave in your promise to be with your people. Silence is observed for individual reflection and prayer.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: In Christ we have the assurance that we can live in ways that break old patterns and that bring new expressions of your love and grace.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON P: Thanks be to God!
*HYMN #579 “Gloria Patri” Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 20: 27 -38
Some Sadducees, those who say there is no resurrection, came to him and asked him a question, ‘Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, leaving a wife but no children, the man shall marry the widow and raise up children for his brother.
Now there were seven brothers; the first married, and died childless; then the second and the third married her, and so in the same way all seven died childless. Finally the woman also died. In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had married her. ’
Jesus said to them, ‘Those who belong to this age marry and are given in marriage; but those who are considered worthy of a place in that age and in the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. Indeed they cannot die any more, because they are like angels and
are children of God, being children of the resurrection. And the fact that the dead are raised Moses himself showed, in the story about the bush, where he speaks of the Lord as the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Now he is God not of the dead, but of the
living; for to him all of them are alive. ’ L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!

*HYMN #2171 “Make Me a Channel…” v. 1 And where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

*HYMN #2171 “Make Me a Channel…” v. 3 O Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand,
*HYMN #2171 “Make Me a Channel…” v. 3 To be loved as to love with all my soul.
*HYMN #2171 “Make Me a Channel…” v. 4 Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, in giving of ourselves that we receive,

*DOXOLOGY #592 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise God all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
*PRAYER OF DEDICATION (unison) Through your grace and goodness, God, we have these gifts to share. May these gifts express the kind of courageous love and acceptance,
care and compassion, that Christ demonstrated in all that he said and did. We who have been so richly blessed pray that we may bring blessings to others, in Christ’s name. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer (unison) Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come; thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
