NOUGHTS AND CROSSES: LESSON 9 RECALL STARTER: HOW WOULD YOU HAVE THE LIGHTING FOR ACT 2 SCENE 10 – PRISON. WHAT LIE DOES CALLUM TELL HIS DAD? HOW DOES KAMAL TALK TO SEPHY? WHAT DECISION HAVE SEPHY’S PARENTS MADE FOR HER? This lesson contains your second SPW for Noughts and Crosses. You will be expected to write a practice exam question. We are going to look at the 12 mark question which asks you about how 2 or three characters interact in the extract you will be given.

She rushes off to unlock the door and opens it. JASMINE rushes past her into the room. SARAH follows. JASMINE goes to the window and looks out. SEPHY. What’s the matter? Is the house on fire? JASMINE. Do you know what time it is? SEPHY. So I overslept a few minutes. Big deal. SARAH. It’s almost noon and your door is locked. SEPHY. Maybe I decided to bring a little bit of excitement into your lives. SEPHY notices CALLUM’s hand reaching out from under the bed to retrieve his trainers, which are on SEPHY and SARAH’s side of the bed. l He grabs a trainer and removes it. SEPHY. I’ll be down as soon as I’ve had my shower. I promise. JASMINE. There’s nothing wrong? SEPHY. Course not. What could be wrong? SARAH turns to leave and notices CALLUM’s remaining trainer. JASMINE. You’re hiding something. I know it. SEPHY. Just cause I overslept? SARAH heads towards the trainer. Sarah, what? Sarah surreptitiously kicks the trainer under the bed, then covers her movements by tidying SEPHY’s bedclothes. JASMINE. My daughter is quite capable of making her own bed, Sarah SARAH. Yes, Mrs Hadley JASMINE. I’m watching you.

You should consider how the relationship has changed throughout the play and how you would show this, in this scene.
