Big Idea Many languages have PREFIXES (which you can add to the beginning of a word to change its meaning) and SUFFIXES (which you can to the end of a word to change its meaning. ) One of the most common suffixes in Spanish is –mente which is the equivalent of –ly in English.
Construction ADJECTIVES describe nouns. ADVERBS describe verbs. To make an adverb, we simply add –mente to the singular feminine form of an adjective.

Demonstrative Adjectives
Demonstrative Adjectives Adjective: means we are going to describe nouns. Demonstrative: means the adjective will demonstrate where the noun is.
Where are we? In Spanish there are 3 ranges of location that we need to know: Aquí: Here Allí: There Allá: Over There
Aquí When we talk about things that are “here, ” we use the words “this and these. ” This and these have T’s Este Esta Estos Estas
Aquí Practice This book is good. Este This libro es bueno. person is crazy. Esta These persona es loca. dogs are cute. Estos These perros son bonitos. pens are broken. Estas plumas son rotas.
Allí When we talk about things that are “there, ” we use the words “that and those. ” That and those don’t have T’s Ese Esa Esos Esas
Allí Practice That book is bad. Ese That libro es malo. person is big. Esa persona es grande. Those Esos Those Esas dogs are ugly. perros son feos. pens are perfect. plumas son perfectas.
Allá When we talk about things that are “over there, ” we use the different words Over there… Aquella Aquellos Aquellas
Allá Practice That book (over there) is boring. Aquel That libro es aburrido. person (over there) is athletic. Aquella Those persona es atlética. dogs (over there) are fast. Aquellos Those perros son rápidos. pens (over there) are mine. Aquellas plumas son mías.
Put it Together This cat is bigger than my cat. That dog is smarter than my dog. This cat is smaller than that dog. That person over there has more money. This boy is more interesting than that girl. This class is better than that class over there.
Put it Together Este gato es más grande que mi gato. Ese perro es más inteligente que mi perro. Este gato es más pequeño que ese perro. Aquella persona tiene más dinero. Este chico es más interesante que esa chica. Esta clase es mejor que aquella clase.
Demonstrative Pronouns
Demonstrative Pronouns Pronoun: means we are going to replace nouns. Demonstrative: means the pronoun will demonstrate where the noun is.

Aquí If we already know what noun we’re talking about, we can replace a demonstrative adjective and noun with a demonstrative pronoun: Este libro éste Esta persona ésta Estos libros éstos Estas personas éstas
Aquí Practice I like those books more than this one. I like that class more than this one. I Me gusta esa clase más que ésta. don’t want those books. I want these ones. I Me gustan esos libros más que éste. Yo no quiero esos libros. Quiero éstos. don’t know those girls. I know these ones. Yo no conozco a esas chicas. Conozco a éstas.

Preterite of ER/IR Verbs
Idea Grande If you have a normal ER or IR verb, this is the process to conjugate it in the preterite tense. This means it happened one time in the past. Good news – ER and IR verbs have the same endings in the preterite!
