It is usually planned and can cause conflict. • (Write an answer) Many years ago, a theme park similar to Tayto Park was going to be built in Drogheda. Would this have been considered ‘good’ for the town in your opinion? Why?
Plan for today �We completed the ‘end of chapter’ page the last day. We have two small chapters to work on now before we do that, and posters, again. �We’ll start off by reading the introduction to the chapter on page 109, which discusses the meaning of development. �We’ll read about social development (making people happy) on page 110. �We’ll read about economic development (making money) on page 111, then take some notes. �Your task in the blue book will be to write your understanding of the word development.

We’ll do the think-pair-share after the next slide. � (note) Social Development: change which improves lives by looking at human needs and helping people. � (note) Economic Development: change which improves lives by looking at the finances of a country and improving the economy. � (note) Quality of life: how good a person’s life is can be measured by health, education, housing, freedom, employment comfort and happiness. � (Think) Look at the pictures on page 110 and 11. What do you see.

We’ll do the think-pair-share then from page 110. � (note) Celtic Tiger: This is when Ireland experienced rapid economic growth between 1990 and 2007 due to foreign investment. � (note) This growth was too fast and led to a crash (high unemployment and unused property for example). � When finished the notes, go to page 70 of the blue reflective journal. Your task is to write down your understanding of the word ‘Development’ and share with others around you. Try to put it in your own words, simpler than what we have read.
