(Note Heading: ) Climate Change 1 Date: (Note) Objectives: 1. Examine a world issue: climate change. 2. Be able to explain the causes of climate change. (note) Skills: Literacy, managing information Homework: Blue Book page 89 Warm-up – pens, paper, journal, books • (Note) Climate Change: extreme changes in temperature, rainfall, or wind. • (Write an answer) Scientists believe climate change to be the most dangerous problem in today’s world. Do you agree or disagree?
Plan for today Over the next three classes, we will examine the causes, consequences and solutions to climate change. This is an issue both individuals and entire governments deal with. Your exercise at the end of class will be to write a half A 4 page in your reflective journals (page 91) calling ‘Climate Change Deniers’ wrong. To understand this fact, we shall read pages 145 -147, then go all the way back to page 100 to draw a diagram of the greenhouse effect.
Page 145 -147 (Green Book) Reading and writing Let’s start with page 145 and 146 which introduces this chapter. Take down the notes before drawing the diagram. (note) The suns heat passes from the atmosphere to the surface where it is either absorbed or reflected back towards the sky. (note) Greenhouse gases naturally trap 90% of the heat between the earth and sky, and thus we can live in on a warm planet. (note) When humans produce too much greenhouse gases, too much heat is trapped, and thus global temperature rises. (Think) Look at the pictures on page 147 to see the main producers of greenhouse gases. Then open green books to page 100 and copy the diagram at the top of the page to your page.
Page 100, Copy Greenhouse this image effect onto your page Afterwards, complete page 91 Blue Reflective Journal. Use this.
