North Somerset CCG – our context • Health better than UK average • Growing Older population – 20% over 65 (England & Wales = 16%) • There a greater proportion of people in nursing homes in North Somerset in comparison to England • Health Inequalities - Gap in life expectancy (10. 7 year for males and 7. 5 for females) and disability-free life expectancy (12. 2 for males and 9. 3 for women) • Drug misuse higher than UK average (rehab centres in Westonsuper-Mare) • The biggest causes of premature death in North Somerset are circulatory diseases, which include heart disease and stroke, and cancer. • The single biggest cause of disability is mental health.
