Background • Norris Road is a Suburban road carrying approximately 19, 000 vehicles per day • The Norris Road corridor provides access to residential areas, local shops, public amenities as well as schools • Norris Road and Barbour Road Intersection – The intersection is a key link for bus routes within the northern suburbs, providing public transport options to Bracken Ridge and Strathpine – The single lane roundabout experiences congestion during peak times, including school drop-off and pick-up times – Pedestrians and cyclists find it difficult to cross at the intersection due to the high traffic volumes – Between 2014 and 2019 this intersection has recorded three crashes, two requiring hospitalisation
Project objectives • Enhance safety for all road users, particularly pedestrians and cyclists • Improve travel time reliability and reduce queue lengths along Norris Road and Barbour Road for general traffic and buses • Encourage public and active transport by providing greater connectivity to public transport, local parklands and amenities Source: Council 2020
