ATTENDANCE • Two days per 9 weeks may be excused for personal illness or serious illness in the family by submitting a parent note if total days missed do not exceed 10 days per school year. • Parent notes must be provided to the school office specialist within 3 days of the student’s return to school. • A student may also be excused from school with an original physician/nurse practitioner’s statement. • If a written excuse is not presented, the absence will be considered unexcused. • Consistent absences impact students’ academic performance NES Student/Parent/Guardian Handbook – Page 6

Payment for Meals CAFETERIA • Money must be placed in an envelope labeled with the student's name, grade, and teacher • Separate checks should be written for each student (make payable to Norco Elementary School Lunch Fund) • An online meal payment system is available for all students (register with www. My. School. Bucks. com) Lunch Visitations • Parents are welcome to eat lunch with their child. • Food items may not be shared with other children • Guest tables are provided in the cafeteria and under the breezeway in the front of school • Be careful in your selection of foods due to food allergies of others • Outside fast food is strongly discouraged • Carbonated drinks are not allowed in the cafeteria Any questions call Patti Rico, Cafeteria Manager at 985 -764 -7332. TRANSPORTATION CHANGES • If there is a change in the student’s address notify the office immediate so that the proper bus assignment can be made. • Students may not ride a different bus without written parent permission. • All transportation requests must be submitted before 2: 30 p. m. on full days and before 11: 30 a. m. on Early Dismissal Days. • For safety reasons, no transportation requests will be accepted over the telephone. • You can use the following ways to make a change in transportation: 1. DRESS CODE St. Charles Parish Public Schools have adopted an official school uniform. Complete guidelines are provided in the Student Code of Conduct: District Handbook. In addition to the Student Code of Conduct: District Handbook, please note the following (see pg 10 of NES Student/Parent/Guardian Handbook for more details): ● When wearing socks, crew or ankle length can be any color. ● Socks above crew length (ex. knee-highs or leggings worn under a skirt/dress) must be solid white, red, khaki, or navy or school logo socks. ● Jeans and spirit shirts may be worn on Fridays; however, jeans cannot have holes in them or be frayed. ● Leggings are not allowed unless they are worn under a school approved skirt/skort/pant/short Parents/Guardians will be notified to bring a change of clothes if the student is not dressed according to the district guidelines. BULLY FREE SCHOOL At Norco Elementary School, our goal is to create a safe, caring, and productive environment for all students to learn. It is our mission to support each child’s development in a nurturing and respectful environment free from ridicule and bullying. We strongly discourage bullying of any kind. We teach our students the proper way to interact with each other. We encourage parents and students to inform teachers and the administration of any instances of bullying. HOMEWORK Homework Hotline – http: //www. homeworkla. org ●Students are expected to complete nightly homework. ●Please check the planner nightly. ●If you have any questions or comments about the homework, you can write them in the planner, or next to the challenging math problem. ●When there are scheduled quizzes or tests, studying will help your child prepare and is considered a homework assignment.
