What is a chronological report? Information must be present in the order of time — and a 'report' —i. e. it is a way of providing factual information to a reader. Often, this way of writing will be used to explain a series of events. Which is why it is used in newspaper reports. Task 1 Look at the First News online newspaper report attached, is it in time order? Do you notice any other features?
What do we need from a newspaper report? A newspaper report needs to… Be about an interesting event; Capture the reader’s attention; Present factual information; Be succinct and to the point; Did you notice this in any of the articles you looked at in First News?
The Essentials First It is important that newspaper reports have the most important information coming first. This is called front-loading. When the reader reads a newspaper report, they should be given the essential information first, so that they can decide if they wish to read more.

I was collecting flowers for my Grandmother in the wood and when I looked up I saw a young boy falling head over heels down the slope. As he bumped down I heard a maniacal laugh from above; there was certainly no ‘tumbling after’ as far as I could tell. ” Police have confirmed that the brother and sister had argued the previous day about the profits from their water-collection business from which Jill was receiving a reduced share.
