Noah – The Movie • Do I have to see it to discuss it in this sermon? • Do I have to partake of a particular sin to be able to preach against it? • While I somewhat support a secular society that is willing to proclaim the God of the Bible – • But not like this movie!
Noah – The Movie • This movie makes a mockery of what the Bible teaches about Noah. • “The film is inspired by the story of Noah. While artistic license has been taken, we believe that this film is true to the essence, values and integrity of a story that is a cornerstone of faith for millions of people worldwide. The biblical story of Noah can be found in the book of Genesis. ”
Noah – The Movie • Director Darren Aronofsky • An atheist, raised in a Jewish household (he said “I’m godless”) who in an interview with The New Yorker said of this movie, “Noah is the least biblical film ever made. ” He told IFC news in June 2011 of the account of Noah, “I don’t think it’s a very religious story”

(Premise Gen. 6: 4 – giants (Nethinim) supposedly fallen angels who mated with humans and were cursed by God)
Noah – is this in the Bible ? ? ? • Gen. 6 -7 - The ark is built and the flood comes • ? ? ? – Men fight to get on the ark as soon as the rains begin. The “rock people” fight them off. • ? ? ? - Tubal-Cain gets on the ark and stows away

He seeks to end the lives of his family including his grandchildren when born (Shem’s wife) – if girls. • ? ? ? – His family hides from him. Ham finds Tubal-Cain and plots with him to kill Noah to stop him. • ? ? ? Tubal-Cain is finally killed by Ham

Lessons from the Biblical Noah • Gen. 6: 9 -10, 7: 1 Heb. 11: 7, Noah was a righteous man. He was not conflicted, obsessive or homicidal. • 2 Pet. 2: 5, Noah was a preacher of righteousness. He warned the world – desired them to repent The people didn’t want to – cf. Luke 17: 26 -27
Lessons from the Biblical Noah • Gen. 6: 17 -18, God loved the world. He continued His covenant with Noah. Warning Noah was an act of mercy and grace. • 1 Pet. 3: 20 -21, The ark is a type of our salvation.

Merchandising the gospel When we turn the Bible into entertainment • When inaccurate it can cause people, especially critics to question accuracy of the Bible accounts • It minimizes the actual word of God into sound bites and excludes important details in accounts
Merchandising the gospel When we turn the Bible into entertainment • Sometimes these dramatic interpretations become the perceived truth – especially by the lazy who will not investigate for themselves – 2 Tim. 2: 15, Acts 17: 11 • An even greater concern when only “off” by a little!

Let us strive to live in a manner pleasing to Him! That means, we must study and obey His word!
