Language Arts Activity Body Outline (Vocabulary) q Three volunteers will be chosen and given a large sheet of white butcher paper. q The volunteers will be asked to lay flat on the floor and someone will trace an outline of their body. q The volunteers will then be given a list of body parts and definition to be labeled on their outlines. q Additional supplies such as yarn, glitter, silly eyes, and paint will be provided for the more creative volunteers.
Mathematics/Physical Education Activity • • The mathematics activity will coincide with the physical/education activity. The student will begin by recording the heart rate before exercise and after exercise. We will begin by checking our pulse before we start our exercises. We will count the pulse for 15 seconds and then we will practice our multiplication by multiplying times 4 to get how fast our pulse is per minute. (Of course I'll ask the students what could we multiply by to find out our pulse for 1 minute and see if anyone could tell me 4. ) • Then after each exercise we will check our pulse and compare it to each exercise. Which one causes the heart to beat fastest/ slowest?
Health/Physical Education Activity Body Outline q Trace each child's outline on a piece of butcher paper. q Cut out the body shapes. q Provide the students with templates of the various muscle groups throughout the body. q Have the students color, cut out and glue the muscles in place on the body.
Health/Physical Education Activity Exercise q Exercising lets kids feel and see how their muscles work to move the body. q The student will perform a series of different exercises such as jumping jacks, sit-ups, push-ups and stretches. q The student will feel their muscles working as they perform the exercises. q By pointing out the particular muscles being used on a diagram helps kids connect the topic to their bodies.
Health/Physical Education Activity Muscle Book q Homemade books provide the students with a chance to demonstrate understanding on the muscular system. q Create a template for the pages based on the information you wish the students to include in the book. q Ideas include the names of specific muscles, a drawing of it, the functions and key characteristics about each muscle or group of muscles.
Technology Objectives: q The student will define vocabulary terms relative to the human body systems. q The student will create a vocabulary glossary using Microsoft Word. q The student will apply basic formatting attributes to the vocabulary glossary. q The student will insert graphics into the vocabulary glossary. q The student will use the Internet/Microsoft Clip Art gallery to obtain images/graphics.
Technology Activity q. The student will create a table using Microsoft Word. q. The student will insert a table with rows and columns. q. The student will type the term/definition in one column and insert a graphic in the other columns. q. The student will submit the vocabulary glossary and it will be graded using a rubric.
