Nimitz Expectations Students acting with Honor, Courage, Commitment
Acting with HONOR means: n n Being kind to your classmates Showing respect to all adults on campus: n Teachers n Substitutes n Secretaries n Custodians n Cafeteria n Parents n Visitors n Following the dress code: n Natural hair color n Wear school uniform/ID n No Hats, pajamas, slippers n No piercings other than in the ears. n No sagging pants (pants will be zip tied to stay on waist) n No “earbuds” visible
BACKPACKS and HOODIES Students may bring backpacks and wear hoodies to school but must leave them in their lockers before 1 st period.
Act with HONOR n Show respect to your school. n Pick up trash when you see it. n Don’t tag on building, desks, walls, benches, chairs, etc. n Treat the school as if it were your second home – because it is. n Be on your best behavior during Safety Drills to keep everyone safe. n No talking n Follow teacher directions n Stay in a single file line and with your class.
Act with HONOR n Sharing a Locker is not allowed n n Decorating your Locker n You can decorate only the INSIDE of your locker. n You may not put any stickers or permanent fixtures on or in your locker. n Never leave food or drink in your locker overnight– it brings bugs. If your locker is broken report it to the office. If you share a locker with someone you will be held responsible for what ever is found in the locker. If you share a locker things may go missing and there will be no way to track down who took it.
Act with HONOR n Follow the District and n School Electronics Policy n Cell phones and other electronics must be turned off and out of sight during the school day. n Please be aware the school will not be responsible for any damaged, lost, or stolen cell phones or electronics. Confiscated electronics: n If a phone or electronic device is picked up and turned into the office a parent must pick it up and speak with an administrator. n Each offense will result in progressive discipline actions.
Acting with COURAGE means: n Doing the right thing even when others are not. n Letting others know that it is not okay to use foul language, bully, or tease others. n Throw your trash away. n Use an “inside voice” while visiting with your friends. Walking away from a fight rather than starting or participating in one. n Leave the cafeteria clean and ready for the next group of students to have lunch. n n Using your best manners in the cafeteria.
Act with COURAGE n Show a positive attitude! n n Positive people are in short supply and high demand. Talk to a teacher, parent, counselor, or administrator if you are having problems with a friend or other students. n Let an adult know if you see someone in the building without an ID. n For safety reasons everyone in the building should have an ID tag: Students, Teachers, and Visitors.
Acting with COMMITMENT means: n Taking your school work seriously and doing your best. n Get involved in school activities like: n n Actively participating in lessons. n n n Learn more. Exceed expectations. Be invaluable to your class! n n Choir Band Orchestra Theatre / Speech / Debate Yearbook Student Council Athletics Academic UIL Clubs
Act with COMMITMENT n Come to school every day! n n n School begins at 8: 20, be here BEFORE school starts. 6 th Grade – reports to Theatre 7 th Grade – reports to Gym 8 th Grade – reports to Cafeteria n School ends at 3: 25, once you leave campus you are not allowed to return. n Nimitz is a “Closed Campus” which means that students may not leave campus once they arrive until the school day ends. If you are sick… n Have a parent call the school attendance office. n When you return, bring a note from home or the doctor to the attendance office. n Any medication must be brought to the nurse in a pharmacy labeled container by an adult. n Get with your teacher to make up missed work. n The law states that students must be present 90% of the school year.
Act with COMMITMENT n Be ON TIME to school and class everytime! n Teachers will start class when the bell rings. n No student will be allowed to leave the first and last 10 minutes of class. n n n Wear your school ID on your lanyard everyday. n Almost every profession requires ID’s to be worn, school is no different. ID’s help identify who should be here on campus. n Students need their ID to leave the classroom, check out books, attend school events, eat lunch. n Teachers will submit names to the office of students who do not have an ID. n If a student is without an ID for 3 days they will be required to purchase a new ID for $5. Students will sign the “Tardy Log” in class after the bell. Any student in the hall between classes must have a pass.
