Basic Facts l l l Tesla was born in 1856 in Smiljan. He was an inventor, mechanical and electrical engineer. He contributed a lot in the field of electricity and magnetism. Some of his inventions: radio, alternating current electric power(AC)systems, remote control Nikola Tesla died 1943 in New York City.
Tesla’s family l Tesla’s father Milutin was an Serbian Orthodox Priest. l His mother Đuka was a housewife, invented many things around the house. l Nikola had one brother and three sisters.
Early years l l l l As a boy he saw a picture of Niagara falls, In his imagination he saw a big wheel turning. Nikola studied electrical enginnering in Graz 1880: he worked in Budapest in a telegraph company 1882: Nikola moved to Paris, There, he worked as engineer for the Continental Edison Company In June 6 th 1884 he arrived to New York City… … with no money and just a letter of recommendation to Thomas Edison
Middle years l l l In 1886 Tesla formed Electric Light & Manufacturing. In July 30 th 1891 he became a citizen of USA. When Tesla was 36, the first patents for the polyphase were made. In 1893 Nikola invented AC dynamo. In 1896 the Niagara Falls Power Project was finished At the age of 41 Tesla patented the first radio.
Later years Tesla didn’t get Nobel prize 1909 for radio, (Marconi practically ‘stole’ it from Tesla) l In August 1917, Tesla established principles regarding frequency for radar units l Tesla appeared on the cover of the Time magazine in 1931. l Later on, Nikola worked on a Directed Energy Weapon, which was supposed to work as a death ray. l
