Focus, invest your time NOW. . 1. As early as NOW. . prepare your mind & heart to be far away from your family…so you can study, come back, and help them later on. 2. Prepare to endure very humid summer days & very cold winter nights…& lovely autumn and spring days & nights. 3. Prepare for disappointments or failures in scholarship applications…got my 1 of 3 Mombusho scholarship (Jap. Gov’t) after the 3 rd attempt…but found the blessings. Had more time to invest on acquiring more studies to add to the applic. form!

VISIT the library of the Embassy…they have catalogues of scholarships & Schools and Universities…write/email your target university & request for correspondence with a possible adviser in the future…advantage if you will have an adviser before you get there…part of the Mombusho applic. 5. As early as possible: learn NIHONGGO formally…be after the documents you can attach to your scholarship applic. 6. BE very physically, mentally, & spiritually healthy…Mombusho scholarships are very strict with the health info of the applic.

INVEST in attaining good grades…you will need at least three recommendations from advisers, teachers, et al…also, you will be submitting a certified true copy of your transcript of records as part of the applic. 8. Be open to learn & live with foreign students (not only Filipinos in Japan)…like them, you will be living in a foreign land. 9. If you get any of the Mombusho grants…save, save. You will find out that it gives the highest stipend in the world. Save for investments here in the Philippines upon your return. 10. START DRAFTING a study/research in detail…the “puso, ” & reason for your study in Japan…for the Philippines.
