WHO IS NICOLA ADAMS? • Nicola Adams was born in Leeds on October 26, 1982. • She started boxing at the age of 12. Her nicknames include The Lioness and The Smiling Assassin. • In 2001, Adams became the first woman boxer to represent England two years later she became English amateur champion for first time. • In 2013 she was awarded an MBE for her services to boxing and received an OBE in the 2017 New Year’s Honours.

NICOLA ADAMS SUCCESS • Nicola Adams is Great Britain’s most successful boxer of all time. She was the first woman boxer to represent England in 2001. • Openly bisexual, Adams was the first openly LGBT person to win an Olympic boxing gold medal in 2012. In 2016, she was the first British boxer in 92 years to successfully defend an Olympic title. • Adams is the only female boxer in the history of the sport to win every major title: Olympic, World, Europe and Commonwealth.

CHARITY WORK • Adams has worked with a number of charities and strives to raise awareness of young people in sport. • The main charity she has worked with and championed is the ‘Fight for Peace’ charity. • She believes that by encouraging young people to get involved in sports such as boxing, it can help to prevent knife crime in the future.
