Objective of the Education Working Work ● Purpose of the Education Working Group ○ The purpose of the Education WG is to help ensure that GLOBE is implemented, worldwide, with sound pedagogy. The scope includes the GLOBE Teacher's Guide, formal and informal educator professional development, training modules and certification process, student research project competition, etc. ● In 2017, Dr. Tony Murphy asked the Working Group to provide feedback and recommendations to improve the Trainer Certification Process.
Current Process (adopted 2012): Qualifications Candidate Trainers
Current Process: Candidate Trainer to Trainer Candidate Trainer then trains one or more teachers under the mentorship and guidance of a Master Trainer. The Mater Trainer completes an on-line written assessment of the candidate and passes it along to the Country Coordinator for review and evaluation. In practice, review and evaluation for each protocol. https: //www. globe. gov/documents/10157/2658125/GLOBE_Trainers_and_Master_Trainers-081512 -v 1. 4. pdf
Current Process: Master Trainers have substantially more knowledge, skills and experience in the same areas of (1) Science, (2) Education, (3) Training Adults, and (4) Knowledge of GLOBE. For Master Trainers this knowledge includes familiarity with how to set up and conduct a GLOBE teacher training and how to mentor Candidate Trainers. The Candidate Master Trainer would then assist a Master Trainer during a GLOBE workshop, including the planning, delivery and feedback. The Master Trainer would complete an on‐line written assessment of the candidate, and pass it to the relevant Regional Board the GPO for review and evaluation https: //www. globe. gov/documents/10157/2658125/GLOBE_Trainers_and_Master_Trainers-081512 -v 1. 4. pdf

Community Findings ● Not aware of current process (including qualifications and rubrics) ● Want current list of Trainers or require active training status ● More flexibility and trust in process (documentation for qualifications, 3 yr requirement, Trainer observation by protocol, MT qualifications) ● Keep Regional and Country responsibilities and authorities in system, but leverage Education Working Group as coordinating body to help facilitate consistency in requirements

Recommended Trainer Flexibility Candidate Trainer Qualifications Review documents evidence of understanding science, education, adult learning, and GLOBE. Mentor Trainer Observation Assessment demonstrates application of understanding. Trainers do not need to be observed for every Protocol. Trainers can do workshops in any Protocol they are trained in through e. Training or in person workshop.
Recommended Mentor Trainers GLOBE Mentor Trainers aid in advancing the community of Trainers by mentoring Candidate Trainers. While Mentor Trainers provide a critical role in building the capacity of the community, it is not expected that all Trainers would wish to become Mentor Trainers. Only those active GLOBE Trainers with a passion for serving the GLOBE community by actively mentoring, observing, and assessing Candidate Trainers should seek this designation. Qualifications based on experience as GLOBE Trainer and commitment to mentor Candidate Trainers.
