Office of Research Ethics The Office of Research Ethics seeks to ensure that all research involving people conducted at Carleton meets the highest ethical standards, while supporting Carleton researchers throughout the research ethics process to promote research excellence. All Carleton University people (faculty, students, staff and all others) doing research involving people, must submit an ethics application and receive clearance for human research. This is whether or not the project is funded, it has approval from another institution, and whether it will be conducted at Carleton or elsewhere. REB clearance is also required for research involving Carleton students, faculty or staff as research participants (subjects). Contact the office at: ethics@Carleton. ca for more information.

Animal Ethics and Biohazards Our Animal Care Committee and Biohazards Committee are responsible and accountable for the implementation of the policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements governing research work conducted at Carleton that would require approval by each committee. Each committee, along with Veterinary Services or Environmental Health and Safety staff ensures: • that the use of animals in research and in teaching conforms to the most rigorous ethical standards, while actively supporting cutting edge science; and • all care is taken before any research is conducted that may involve animals or biological materials. Contact the Animal Care Committee and Biohazards Committee coordinator Nora. Large@carleton. ca before undertaking research that may involve any animals or biological materials for requirements and review approval process.
