What is the idea behind Fruit. Atmo ? The CO 2 release is the most important indicator of fruit metabolism. a) The CO 2 release decreases as the O 2 -Level is lowered in the CA-room, until the anaerobic compensation point (ACP) is achieved. b) If the O 2 -Level is lower than the ACP-Point, then the CO 2 release increases sharply. Taking this in account, the response of CO 2 releases to the O 2 lowering the correct oxygen. Setpoint can be monitored by the CO 2 -release with a special algorithm over the storage period. Fruit. What does it means in practise ? - The System does not require any additional equipment to be used in a commercial CA-room. - The measurement of O 2 uptake is not nessary to determine optimal O 2 setpoint. - The System adapts the Oxygen set point of each Varity, species, maturity stage automatically, like a self-learning system. - The system runs completely autonomous, no interpretations are necessary. What will be the next development with Fruit. Atmo ? On the same CO 2 release measurment of fruits, the algorithm is also able to find the: optimum temperature setpoint ! That means is practice: The room temperature setpoint could be raised between 0, 5 to 2, 0 K to the Standard value: - energy savings in refrigeration system - reducing losses because of low temperature damages The temperature setpoint interacts with the O 2 setpoint - this will be done automatically. Atmo, Summary of Advantages: 1) To employ the new DCA method in commercial rooms, it is not necessary for any additional equipment - reducing the cost for its adoption in commercial rooms; 2) With the use of the new DCA method, the oxygen uptake measurement is not necessary to estimate the lowest oxygen limit; 3) During the period, that CO 2 scrubber is turned-off to allow the accumulation of CO 2 in the storage room is not necessary turn-off the oxygen injection. This is very important to avoid low oxygen stress; 4) The new DCA method gives the new oxygen setpoint, without needing interpretations, as is necessary for other DCA methods; 5) The new DCA method allows the induction of anaerobic metabolism at safety levels. The induction of anaerobic metabolism results in acetaldehyde and ethanol production by fruit. Atmo, Summary of Advantages: 6) With the employment of the new DCA method all fruit of the room are monitored and not only samples, as in DCA – CF and some methods of DCA – RQ, resulting in more realistic results; 7) The new DCA method allows the calculation of a factor, which gives evidence about fruit metabolism and consequently if the low oxygen is effective to reduce respiration; 8) The new DCA method avoids the occurrence of superficial scald on apples by the low oxygen and ethanol accumulation; Fruit.
