Project Goals: Goal: Monitor AC/DC voltage and current for the solar panels and wind turbines for the SMART Lab. Scope: Design and implement a prototype that will be installed in the SMART lab. • Sense AC and DC voltage and current • Data transmission over Freescale’s Zig. Bee Io. T technology • Memory Management • Power Management • Clock Management Stretch Goals • GUI to analyze power production in the SMART lab • Deploy a full scale network
SMART Lab Schematic 6750 W System • 87 locations for sensors • 53 solar panels • 9 wind turbines • 18 8 D Sealed Lead-Acid Storage Batteries • 7 DC/AC inverters • Each will measure Voltage and Current • 174 signals to transmit via Io. T Three 1520 W Systems
Design Approach • Prototype using Freescale Kinetis Microcontroller and Zigbee radio • Final design will incorporate parasitic power and charging • Cost optimize prototype • Unified design for all applications
