Welcome
Segments and Backbones • A network segment is a cable length, that is uninterrupted by network connectivity devices, such as bridges and routers. • A backbone is the main cable segment or trunk in the network.
Network Media Cabling • coaxial cable. • twisted-pair • fiber-optic cable.
Coaxial Cable ü Coaxial, or coax, cable looks like the cable used to bring the cable TV signal to your television. One strand (a solid-core copper wire) runs down the middle of the cable.
Coaxial Cable
Twisted-Pair Cable ü Twisted-pair gets its name ü Two forms of twisted-pair cabling ü Unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) ü Shielded twisted-pair (STP).
Twisted-Pair Cable ü RJ-11 connector is a telephone connection.
Twisted-Pair Cable ü UTP cabling has different flavors or category.
Twisted-Pair ü a Straight-Through ü Crossover Cables
Twisted-Pair Cable ü Wiring standards 568 A and 568 B ü 568 B is the more popular. The 568 B Wiring Standard for a Straight-Through Cable
Twisted-Pair Cable The 568 B Wiring Standard for a Crossover Cable
Create Network cable ü To create your own network cable crimper
Fiber-Optic Cable
Fiber-Optic Cable ü Types of connectors ü The straight-tip (ST), (BNC-style connector) ü The subscriber (SC) connector. (similar to an RJ-45 connector)
