Partnership and Collaboration • NBS has been quick to respond to Socio- Economic Rapid Assessment requests from different agencies: - Rapid Assessment Survey with UNWOMEN - Resort Employees survey with UNDP - Work with National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) on analysis of COVID data, guiding testing process and data provision - Children’s day Quiz with Ministry of Education * In partnership with Telecom partners:
Impact of Covid and Strategic Planning • Development of NSDS delayed- work ongoing remotely - Gender to be mainstreamed into NSDS as a crosscutting sector - Development of key National Indicators - based on the SAP, SDG and Sectoral Master plans • Other set backs in data collections: HIES , Census 2021 preparation
Assessment of Gender Statistics in Maldives ASSESSMENT OF GENDER STATISTICS IN THE MALDIVES • Key findings: • Multiple data gaps in gender statistics in Maldives • 57% of the priority gender-specific indicators are currently produced from existing data sources • With - Capacity gaps in NBS and line ministries - Lack of Statistics Law - Low political interest - Key priority indicators on gender statistics not yet identified - First meeting of interagency working group held virtually with the presence of Gender Minister. - Commitment from Minister in moving forward
Work continues …. • Administrative data- build, improve its quality and increase its usage for official statistics • More researches - especially on areas which affect men and women. • Use of current available data including the finding of rapid assessment- for COVID recovery respond. • Collaboration with CSO- Citizen Generated Data project initiation with Maldives Red Crescent(MRC)
