NAVSEA 05 Z Update to NSRP NAVSEA 05 Z - Shore Power Working Group, 28 -29 October 2020 Virtually cohosted by Marvin Newton, NAVFAC Atlantic, and Chris Abadilla / Peter Andrich NAVSEA 05 Z Key documents MIL‐STD‐ 2003‐ 2 B (EPISM) and P‐ 604 (ESAFE) were discussed as applicable to the SPWG. Shore power cables and connectors for 480 V surface ships plugs and receptacles for both the ship and shore side will need to be updated over the coming years. Cables are at end of life in many cases and lugs/connectors have new requirements. Safety continues to be paramount in the community. Revisions to cable cap and lanyard configuration for the MIL‐C‐ 24368/5 sub plug are underway and investigations into safer preventative maintenance practices (IR scans) are being performed to reduce the risk of fire. Improvements to ship connector testing by NSRP and evaluation of connector pin testing by NAVFAC will ultimately lead to more reliable shore power systems. NAVFAC and NAVSEA criteria are not in 100% alignment for some criteria. This is a major focus area moving forward to clarify criteria and ensure that requirements are met. DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A. Approved for public release. Distribution is unlimited.
