Drought A drought is defined as an acute shortage of water and crop failure. It is an abnormally dry period when there is not enough water to support water needs.
Typhoon−is one of the names of cyclonic storm that forms over the oceans. It is caused by evaporated water that comes from the ocean. Tornado is another name for it.
Volcano eruption is the point in which volcano is active and releases its power, and the eruptions come in many forms.
Floods are the result of prolonged rainfall from a storm, rapid melting of large amounts of snow, or rivers which rise up their levels of water.
Tsunami is a wave of water caused by the displacement of a body of water. It can be caused by undersea earthquakes or by meteorological phenomena.
Earthquake is a phenomenon that results from a sudden release of stored energy that radiates seismic waves. It shows itself by a shaking of the ground.
Famine A famine is a widespread scarcity of food, caused by several factors including war, inflation, crop failure, population imbalance, or government policies. This phenomenon is usually accompanied or followed by regional malnutrition, starvation, epidemic, and increased mortality. The numbers dying from famine began to fall sharply from the 2000 s.
Forest fire is an uncontrolled fire burning in wildland areas. Common causes include lightning and drought but they may also be started by human carelessness.
Deforestation can occur for several reasons: trees can be cut down to be used for building or sold as fuel (sometimes in the form of charcoal or timber), while cleared land can be used as pasture for livestock and plantation. The removal of trees without sufficient reforestation has resulted in habitat damage, biodiversity loss, and aridity.
Hurricane is a natural disaster resulting from a thunderstorm. It is a violent, rotating column of air, which can blow at speeds between 50 and 48 km/h and possibly higher. It can occur one at a time or can occur along lines occupying large areas.
Avalanche is a slide of a large snow (or rock) mass down a mountainside. It is one of the major dangers faced in the mountains in winter.
Heat wave is a hazard characterized by heat which is considered extreme and unusual in the area in which it occurs.
Hailstorm are rain drops that have formed together into ice.
Landslide is a disaster closely related to an avalanche, but instead of occurring with snow, it occurs involving actual elements of the round, including rocks, trees, parts of houses etc. which may happen to be swept up. It can be caused by an earthquake or a volcanic eruption.
Blizzard is a severe winter storm condition characterized by low temperatures, strong winds, and heavy blowing snow.
Tornado is one of the names of cyclonic storm that forms over the oceans. It is caused by evaporated water that comes from the ocean. Typhoon is another name for it.
Crop failures can be caused by new catastrophic events such as plant flares, heavy rainfall, volcanic eruptions, storms, floods or droughts.
Whirlpool A whirlpool is a body of rotating water produced by opposing currents or a current running into an obstacle. Small whirlpools form when a bath or a sink is draining. More powerful ones in seas or oceans may be termed maelstroms.
Ice-storm An ice-storm is a type of winter storm characterized by freezing rain, also known as a glaze event or, in some parts of the United States, as a silver thaw.
