How you can support your child Let your child see you enjoy reading for yourself! They are influenced by you and what you do Make time for your child to read to you Encourage your child to ‘sound out’ unfamiliar words and then ‘blend’ from left to right rather than looking at pictures to guess Remind children to use their fingers as sound buttons or allow them to draw sound buttons underneath a word Correct errors by repeating the word correctly Play phonics games on your computer, laptop or tablet at home Use previous check papers but keep sessions short and praise good attempts DON’T PANIC!

Outcomes: What happens if my child does not pass the test? Results will be sent to you by the end of the autumn term We look at how your child is doing in phonics and other areas of school work. They may already be getting extra support if we think that is needed. If not then we will consider whether that is appropriate It might just be that they didn’t do well in the check and we will monitor to see if there is a problem
