Lessons Learned Weak links to development planning processes • Limited mainstreaming Stakeholder participation limited • Lack of political commitment beyond core agency • Limited public awareness
Strategic Priorities for Action National level Process • Engage / coordinate with national planning processes • Keep NBSAP under review
Strategic Priorities for Action National level Stakeholder Engagement • Promote local action • Develop a strategic communication strategy • Development of sub-national BSAPs
Strategic Priorities for Action National level Implementation • Establish national targets • Prioritize implementation activities • Monitoring, reporting, and information exchange
Strategic Priorities for Action Convention level Updated and consolidated guidance • Support engagement of major groups • Knowledge management and enhanced role of CHM • Tools, guidelines, training modules, and capacity-building workshops •
Regional Workshops Decision VIII/8 calls for regional / sub-regional meetings to discuss national experiences in NBSAPs, and the integration of biodiversity concerns into relevant sectors • • Capacity-building workshops planned for 2007 – 2008 Disseminate best practices Support enhanced capacity to implement and evaluate NBSAPs Identify steps forward for mainstreaming Provide an opportunity for regional cooperation and knowledge exchange
