Nascido em Xangai, China, Christopher Zhang estudou na Ásia, assim como na Rússia, França, Espanha e em 1990, viajou para os Estados Unidos para fazer mestrado no “Rhode Island College”. Foi fortemente influenciado pela pintura realista russa do século XIX. Mestres russos lhe ensinaram a “colorir a alma do homem”, enquanto americanos e ocidentais mestres europeus lhe ensinaram a “enobrecer a figura do homem”, permitindo-lhe assim revelar o verdadeiro caráter da figura. Seus estilos versáteis e habilidades em caligrafia e pintura chinesa tradicional também ganharam popularidade. Pinta a óleo e também em aquarela, acrílico, guache e tinta chinesa. Suas pinturas são dedicadas principalmente à cultura chinesa e suas tradições e ao balé clássico. Especificamente, tenta combinar as cores impressionistas com pinceladas grandes e ásperas do realismo russo. É membro da “Copley Society of Boston”, da “The Connecticut Fine Arts Academy” e foi diretor do “Mystic Arts Center”. Seu trabalho está em exposição permanente no “Lyman Allyn Museum of Art”, New London, e no “Sun City Art Museum”, em Phoenix, AZ.

Biography: Christopher Zhang was born in Shanghai, China, but studied in Asia, as well as in Russia, France, Spain and in 1990 he traveled to the United States for a Master Degree in “Rhode Island College”. He was strongly influenced by the Russian realistic painting of the nineteenth century. Russian masters taught him to “color the soul of man”, while American and Western European masters taught him to “ennoble the figure of the man”, thus enabling him to reveal the true character of the figure. His versatile style and skills in calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting also gained popularity. Zhang also paints in oil and watercolor, acrylic, gouache and Chinese ink. His paintings are chiefly devoted to the Chinese culture and traditions, and classical ballet. Specifically, he attempts to combine the impressionists colors with the large and harsh Russian realism brush strokes. He is a member of “Copley Society of Boston”, of “The Connecticut Fine Arts Academy”, and was the director of ‘Mystic Arts Center”. His work is on permanent display in the “Lyman Allyn Museum of Art”, New London, and “Sun City Art Museum”, in Phoenix, AZ.
