Narrative �A narrative is a short story or recounting a series of events. Chronological Order �An organizational method that relates events from beginning to end in the order in which they occurred. �First, she prepared the ingredients. �Then, she filled the pie. �Next, she baked the pie. �Finally, she ate the pie.
Flashback �A narrative device that shows an event or a scene taking place before the present time. Flashbacks break from chronological order to travel back in time to show events from the past.
Point of View �The method of narrating a story. • 1 st Person: The narrator is a character and is telling the story. • 3 rd Person: The story is told by a narrative voice outside of the story. • 3 rd Person Omniscient: An all-knowing narrator who can see into the minds/thoughts of the characters. • 3 rd Person Limited: A narrator who tells only what one character thinks, feels, and observes.
