Framework program for Public Libraries 2 challenges for public libraries today: 1. constant challenge of digital delivery 2. to manage a far more differentiated clientele with alternating needs and demands How do we turn: • from collection to connection • from book container to community center • from transaction to relation
The mission of the framework program for Public Libraries • NOT to deliver a complete design – and building guide to the optimal public library • to inspire and widen the playing field for the public library’s principal change agents: • municipal politicians, leaders in the technical and cultural departments in municipalities, library leaders and key personnel, and the architects and other advisors that will contribute to the realization of local versions of new libraries or implementing large scale refurbishing of existing libraries • to provide inspiration and guide lines as to how existing libraries can optimize their interior design and square feet use, hereby to make room and space for new functions or strengthen the interactivity between multiple functions.
