Current Market Landscape Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)

New Emissions Standards u New EPA standards - On January 1, 2010, new emissions standards went into effect mandating that all on-road diesel vehicles manufactured must reduce harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in an effort to reduce air pollution. - These stricter emissions standards include all vehicle classes 1 to 8, and apply to heavy duty vehicles such as trucks, buses, construction and agricultural equipment. - By 2016, all diesel vehicles 75 to 750 HP, including automotive, heavy truck, agriculture and marine will be required to meet the emissions standard established in 2010.

How are manufacturers meeting the new emission standards?

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Technology u Leading technology - u The leading technology that is being utilized by manufacturers to meet the new emission standards is Selective Catalytic Reduction, or SCR. How SCR Works - SCR uses basic chemistry and a simple process to reduce nitrogen oxides, or NOx, emissions, into harmless nitrogen and water vapor. - SCR systems consist of a catalyst, a reducing agent DEF and a dosing system which injects a mist of DEF into the exhaust downstream of the engine and diesel particulate filter.

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Technology u How it works

Benefits of SCR u Benefits - SCR technology offers many benefits, including reduced air pollution and improved fuel efficiency. - Some existing fleets with this technology have reported fuel savings of around 5% compared to similar 2007 models.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid u What is DEF? - DEF is a fluid that is injected periodically into the exhaust of the SCR system to convert the exhaust into nitrogen and water, reducing NOx levels to almost zero. - It is an organic, non-toxic compound, made of 32. 5% urea and 67. 5% purified water. - DEF is susceptible to freezing at 12° F (-11° C). - Though harmless to humans, DEF is a highly corrosive fluid to most rubber and metals and requires specially formulated rubber compounds and stainless steel couplings for optimal handling.

DEF Market Growth u The DEF market is growing at a substantial rate. u According to Integer Research, the DEF market is expected to reach 134. 8 million gallons sold in 2012. By 2015, that number is expected to grow to 402. 3 million gallons. That is almost 200% market growth in four years! 402. 3 Million Gallons 134. 8 Million Gallons 2012 2015

Why is this important? u Since the introduction of the new standards in 2010, SCR vehicles are now in their replacement phase. u As of September 2012, there were over 348, 000 class 8 vehicles equipped with SCR in operation in North America. u This represents a substantial sales opportunity to provide your customers with NAPA Belts/Hose innovative product solutions for their DEF needs!

Napa’s DEF Product Offering u NAPA Belts/Hose offers TWO great product solutions to answer customers’ DEF needs. DEF Hotline™ SCR Hose Assemblies DEF Tank Transfer Hose & Couplings

DEF Hotline™ SCR Hose Assemblies u NAPA Belts/Hose DEF Hotline™ SCR Hose Assemblies Hotline™ SCR Return Line Hotline™ SCR Pressure Line

DEF Hotline™ SCR Hose Assemblies u Dense closed-cell EPDM cover - u u Resists abrasion and cuts Carbon Fiber heating - Provides uniform dispersion of heat - Quick thaw time - Less amp draw Quick connects are overmolded - Keep contamination out

Comparison to Typical OE Competitor Hose Assemblies u Plastic corrugated protective sleeve - u Single wire heating element which is coiled around the inner tube - u Abrasive on the inner heating element Prone to cracking Prone to breakage Slow thaw time More amp draw Brittle plastic quick connects - Prone to cracking & failure Contamination entry point for dirt and road grime

DEF Hotline™ SCR Hose Assemblies #1 choice for cold temperatures u NAPA Belts/Hose DEF Hotline SCR Hose Assemblies keep the temperature of the DEF warmer for longer. - u DEF begins to crystallize and freeze at 12° F (-11° C). NAPA Belts/hose DEF hose assembly exceeds OE requirements and improves performance by providing quick and consistent line heating. - This robust design exceeds typical OE design which utilizes the single wire heating element that is less efficient and can become brittle and break.

Where to find the sales opportunity? u As the weather cools down, customers will begin to see failures within their fleet. They may go back to OE and not realize that NAPA has product to suit their needs. - u Increasing awareness of the quality NAPA Belts/Hose products will go a long way in increasing potential sales opportunities. We are beginning to receive reports of substantial OEM product failure. This is particularly true of PACCAR vehicles where NAPA Belts/Hose has coverage. While many of these models are still under warranty, your customers can avoid significant vehicle down time by installing superior NAPA Belts/Hose DEF Hotline™ SCR Hose Assemblies.

DEF Hotline™ SCR Hose Assembly Applications NAPA PART #

DEF Tank Transfer Hose & Couplings u Key features: - Manufactured for pumping and filling DEF tanks with highly corrosive DEF fluid - Highest quality construction to meet the demands of DEF handling and transfer 4 Peroxide-cured EPDM hose, along with stainless steel couplings, is specifically designed to handle corrosive DEF fluids in order to avoid contamination which can damage highly engineered systems - Available in ¾” and 1” standard I. D. sizes in 25’ and 300’ bulk reels - Crimping specs can be found in Gates Hydraulics e. Crimp electronic database

Where to find the sales opportunity? u DEF Tank Transfer Hose & Couplings are applicable in all markets using diesel engines including automotive, heavy truck, agriculture and offhighway. - u Opportunity exists wherever SCR vehicles are serviced. Look for pallet sized totes and 55 gallon drums with electric or hand pumping units in these locations. - u Anywhere 2010 and newer diesel engines are operating, DEF is required. Napa’s DEF tank transfer hose is an integral part of these dispensing units. Many of these units use low quality hose and PVC plastic fittings. Napa’s DEF hose can be used with PVC fittings and Stainless Steel Clamps, but the Gates Hydraulics Stainless Steel coupling line provides a more durable and permanent solution!
