Had influence over the Cheyenne and Hunkpapa nation who lived around the Cheyenne river and Yellowstone area North Dakota Empire, Civilization or Nation: Was Chief of the Oglala Sioux Best Known for: Crazy horse Led, and played a major role in the Battle of Little Big Horn where General Custer and his esteemed 7 th Cavalry were annihilated. Crazy Horse had an unnatural ability to return from battle unharmed. Crazy Horse was described by Arapaho Indian Water Man : “Was the bravest man I ever saw. He rode closest to the soldiers, yelling to his warriors. All the soldiers were shooting at him, but he was never hit. ” Was able to win most battles even though he generally had a much smaller force. He was regularly outgunned and outnumbered yet he still managed to pull through and win. When gold was discovered in the area Crazy Horse controlled, the U. S. army attempted to take that land away from him, however they were unsuccessful, Crazy Horse held off, pushed back, and in certain cases, such as Custer’s case annihilated the U. S. army, denying them the gold and other valuable resources they sought to take from him
