Nahjul Balaaghah, a highly valued book, consists of: 1. 254 sermons, 2. 48 letters, and 3. 212 sayings of Imam Ali Nahjul Balaaghah is unique to Imam Ali None of the Sahaaba was ever able to produce anything like it: neither in substance nor in literary eloquence. No wonder Ali was referred to as: 1. Sayyid al-Bulaghaa' (Pinnacle of Literary Expression) and 2. Sayyid al-Fu'qahaa, (Pinnacle of the Jurisprudents)

In Sermon 95, page 140, Ali about the Mission’s Times ، ﺓ ﻱ ﻻ ﺍ ﺍﻟ ، ﺓ ﻱ ﺍﻭﻥ ، ﺍﺍ ﺍ ، ﺍ ﺍﻻ ﺍ ; ﺍﻻ ﺍﺍ ﺍ ، ﺍ ﻻﺀ ، ﺍﻻ ﺍﻝ ﻱ ﺍﻯ ﻯ ﻯ ، ﻳ ﺍﻟ ﻱ ( ﻭآﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ )ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍ ، ﻳ ﺍﻟ . ﺍ ﺍ ﻯ ﺍ Allah (swt) has sent Muhammad (pbuh) at a time when: l. Mankind was going astray, in disorientation and perplexity, and in malicious discord; l. People were in lust and mischief. They were prisoners of their avarice. And their capricious desires had deflected them from virtue. l. Conceit took hold of them, thus it swerved them l. Extremes of ignorance made fools of them. l. Society was confounded and in confusion, not only by instability but also by the evil of ignorance. It was with the advent of his Prophethood, that Muhammad (pbuh) gave superb admonitions and trustworthy advice, in abundance. He trod on the Right Path [Islam] and urged mankind towards the path of wisdom and with fitting counsel.

The Society at that time was: In disarray, disoriented and perplexed Lust and mischief were common. Conceit took hold of people. Extremes of ignorance made fools of them. Thus instability was the norm, due to their ignorance.
In sermon 94, page 139, Ali eulogizes the Prophet ﺍﺍ ،( ﻭآﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ )ﺻﻠﻰ ﺩ ﻯ ﺍ ﺍﻟﻠ ﺍ ﻯ ، ﺍ ﺍ ﺍﻱ ﺍﻟ ﺳ ﻭﺍ ﺍﻻ ، ﺗ . ﺍ ﺍ ﺍ . ﻻﺍ ، ﺍ ﻭ ﺍ ، ﻡ ﻱ ; ﺍﻟ ، ﺍﻻ ، ﺍ ﻻ ، ﺍﻟ ، ﺍ ﻳ ; ﻭ ﺍ ، ﻭﺍ ، ﺍﻯ ﻳ ، ﻯ ﺍ ﺍ . ﺍﻻ ﺍﺓ ، ﺍ ﺓ ، ﺍﻟ ﺓ ﻳ ﻯ ; ﺍ ، ﺍ Allah brought forth Muhammad from a glorious origin, and honorable seed. It was the same honorable lineage of other Prophets; and from which He selected His trustees Muhammad's descendants [Ahlul Bayt] are the best descendants, his kinsmen are the cream of kin, and his lineal tree the finest. This tree grew in esteem and rose in distinction. It branched out and produced marvelous fruit. The Prophet (pbuh) is the Imam [Master or Supreme Leader] of all who fear Allah, and the light for all who seek guidance. Muhammad (pbuh) is a lamp with an ever burning flame, a meteor ever shining, and a flint of a bright spark. Muhammad's conduct is upright, his behavior is guiding, his speech is decisive and his decision is just. Allah sent him after an interval from the previous Prophets when society had fallen into an abyss disoriented, and in darkness of ignorance.
Comments about Muhammad’s Background Allah brought forth Muhammad from: – A glorious origin, and – An honorable seed of: – The same lineage that brought forth other Prophets Muhammad is the Supreme Leader of the God-fearing, and – – The light for any who seeks guidance. He is a beacon with an ever-burning flame, He is a meteor ever shining, and He is a flint of a bright spark. Muhammad's conduct is upright, his behavior is guiding, his speech is decisive and his decision is just.
In sermon #96, page 141 Ali about the Mission’s Effect , ، ، ﺕ ، ﺍﺍ ﺍ ﻱ . ﻻ ﺍﻟ ﺍ ، ﺍ ﺍﻻ ، ﺍﻧ ﻭ ، ﺍ ﺍﻟ [ ]ﺍﻟﻠ ، ﺍﻟ . ﺍ ، ﺍ ﻻ Muhammad is of the highest station, and of the noblest origin, in the mines of honor and the cradles of peace. Allah made the hearts of the virtuous incline towards him and the reins of eyes turn towards him. Through Muhammad, Allah buried mutual rancor and put off the flame of rebellion. And through him Allah instilled affection in the hearts of believers, to become like brothers; And through him Allah had secluded the disbelievers all together. Through Muhammad Allah conferred honor to the lowly, and humiliation to the arrogant with disbelief. Muhammad (pbuh) spoke with wisdom and even his silence was an indication of speech.
Ali speaks about the Status of Muhammad is of the highest station, and the noblest origin Allah made: – The hearts of the Believers incline towards him and – The seekers of Wisdom turn towards him. In Sermon 2, page 46, Ali describes the Message of Muhammad ، ﺍﻟﻤﻭ ﺍﻟﺍ ، ﺍﻟﻤﻭ ﺍﻟ ، ﺍﻟﻤﻭ ﻳ ﺍﻟ ﺃ ، ﺍ ﺍﻟ ﺍﻻ ، ﺍﻟﻼ ﺍ ﺍﻟ ، ﺍ ﺍﻟ ﻭ ﺍﻟ ، ﺍﻟﻻ ﻭﻳﻔ ، ﺍﻻﺍ ﻳﺮ ، ﺍ ﺍﻟ ﺍﺍﺟ ، ﺍ ﻟ ﺇﺍ ، ﺍﻟﻳ ﺍﻱ ، ﻳ ﺍﻟ ﻳﻬﺎ ﺍ : ﻥ ﻓﻲ ﺍ ﺍﻟ ﺍ ، ﺍﻻ ، ﺍﻟ ﺍ ، ﺍﻟ ، ﺍـ . ﺍ ﻭﻟﻯ ، ﺍ ﺍﻟﻯ Allah sent Muhammad with the illustrious religion, the effective emblem, the written Book, the shining light, the sparkling gleam and the decisive injunction, in order to: 1. Dispel doubts, present clear proofs, administer warning through signs and 2. To warn of punishments. At that time people had fallen in vice whereby the rope of religion was frayed, the pillars of belief shaken, the principles sacrificed, the system rendered upside down, the openings made narrow, the passage dark, the guidance blinded and darkness prevailed.

In Sermon 33, page 77, Ali about Muhammad’s influence ،( ﻭآﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ )ﺻﻠﻰ ﺩ ﺑﺤﺎﻩ ﺍﻟﻠ ﺇ ، ﺍﺑ ﺍ ، ﻱ ﻻ ، ﻯ ﺍ ﺍﻟ ﺍ ، ﺍ ﺍﺍ . ﺍ ﺍ Verily, Allah sent Muhammad (pbuh) when none among the Arabs read a book nor claimed Prophethood. 1. 2. He guided the people till he took them to their proper station and Led them to their salvation. As a result, 1. 2. Their affairs straightened up and Their conditions settled down.
Comments about the Influence of the Prophet (pbuh) When Muhammad (pbuh) was entrusted with the Message, none (hardly) among the Arabs read a book nor claimed Prophethood. So: 1. He kept guiding the people wisely, till he took them to their proper station and 2. He led them to their salvation. Consequently and as a result: 1. Their affairs straightened up and 2. Their conditions settled down.

The mission had been in a lull, and mankind was in a slumber. 2. Evils raising their heads, disruptions prevailed, in flame of wars with hurts 3. The world was with dim light, full of open deceitfulness. Its leaves had turned yellow, giving up hope of its fruits, for its water had sank underground. 4. Thus the beacon of guidance had disappeared and signs of demolition had appeared. The world was stern to its men, frowning in the face of its seekers. Its fruit was vice and its food decayed. Its banner was fear and its garment was force by way of the sword.

Ali about Muhammad’s Works In Sermon 100, page 145, ، ﺍﻋ ، ﺍﻗ ، ﻳﻨ ﻯ ، ﻳﺪ ﻯ ، ﺍ ﺭﺍ ﻳﺍ ، ﺍ ، ﺍ ، ﺍ ﺍ ﻳ ، ﺍﻻ ﻳ ﻳﺍ God sent Muhammad to manifest His commands and speak about His remembrance. Muhammad fulfilled the mission nobly, and he passed away while on the right path. He left among us the standard of right. 1. 2. 3. Whoever defiles it will have deviated, whoever lags behind it is ruined. Whoever sticks to it would have joined the right. Its guide is short of speech, slow of steps, and quick when he rises.

Allah has deputed [Muhammad] when: –The banners of Guidance were obliterated and –The ways of religion were desolate. –So, Muhammad threw open the truth, –Admonished the people to the good, –Guided people to righteousness and –Commanded to moderation. Therefore, Muhammad (pbuh) came to the rescue. So, he diligently threw open the truth, Admonished people to the good, Guided people to righteousness and Commanded to moderation. In sermon 213, page 330 Ali about the works of the Prophet ، ﺍ ﺍﻟ ، ﺍﻻﺍ ﻱ ، ﺍﺍ ﺍ ، ﻭ ﺍﻟ ، ﺍﻭ ﺍﻝ ﻳﻦ ، ﻻ ﺍﻟ ﻯ Allah deputized the Prophet with light, and accorded him the highest precedence in selection. Through him Allah united those who were divided, overpowered the powerful, overcame difficulties and leveled rugged ground, and thus removed misguidance from right and left.
