MYP Priorities a bit of a recap What
MYP Priorities + a bit of a recap… What should an MYP classroom look like? https: //padlet. com/emily_hardwicke 1/5 ipcyoz 7 abpe Use this for help, advice, top tips! https: //lcismyp. wordpress. com
Last year…
This year… Overall Aim: To ensure that the MYP is implemented consistently across Year 7 – 9 to provide students with high quality teaching and learning opportunities.
MYP link teacher in each Department / Subject area. Responsibilities to include: • Attending a termly meeting with other MYP links and MYP coordinator to discuss developments, issues, opportunities etc. • Feeding back to department / subject areas on the MYP and running appropriate training / meeting segments to keep team up to date and informed on the MYP. • Developing MYP teaching and learning in your subject areas and sharing practice. • Ensuring (along with your Ho. D) that the department is following the appropriate standards and procedures for assessment and giving students opportunities to complete IDU / service etc. Please could all Ho. Ds let me know who your MYP link is going to be by the end of the week.
MYP Subject overviews / assessment Lcismyp. wordpress. com • Useful resource for finding your assessment criteria, links to subject documents etc. • Ho. Ds need to ensure your subject group overviews are complete to allow us to find opportunities for meaningful IDUs, service opportunities etc. This shouldn’t be very onerous now that Managebac is complete.
IDUs – Inter-disciplinary units • This year we need to aim to have a formal calendar for IDUs. There needs to be one (formal) IDU in each year group. This means a unit that has a summative assessment outcome where the grading uses the IDU criteria and this is reported on Managebac. • 1 st steps – Ho. Ds to complete subject group overview so that meaningful IDU opportunities can be found. • IDU ‘speed dating’ session to explore opportunities. • MYP link session focused on IDUs. • Formalised calendar created. • IDUs take place. • Teachers grade according to specific criteria. • Reported on Managebac.
Service • This year we are also aiming to be able to document service opportunities for students in MYP+. Students in Year 9 will be completing the Community Project but can also complete other service learning through the curriculum. • Students in Year 7 and 8 need to be given opportunities through subject areas (as well as other areas) to complete meaningful service and action that they can then log in their portfolios. • MYP links will be responsible for ensuring there is clear communication about anything that has been happening within the department so there is an overall record of this.
Learner Portfolios The idea for this began last year but wasn’t particularly well executed! This year, students in Year 7 -9 will be expected to complete a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates completion of the MYP. Evidence could come from subject areas, extra-curricular, and needs to demonstrate connection with / awareness of ATLs / LP etc. Each student also needs to have evidence of participation in service and action as well as one formal IDU. Students will be given time in their Library lessons each term to add to and complete their portfolio which will take the pressure off Homeroom tutors. However, at the end of the year, a series of student-led conferences will be arranged where students will need to present their portfolios and demonstrate that they have ‘passed’ the year before their Year 9 graduation from the MYP.
In Departments… • Make a 5 point action plan of what you need to do to ensure your Department is rising to the challenges of the MYP! • Choose your MYP link. • Get started on your subject group overview (see Teams for an editable file).
