Original Intentions – Magazine • My original intention was to create a teen vouge dps as I could write a column about personal experience on depression. I ended up with 2 double page spreads as I couldn’t fit my full page picture and all my writing onto two pages. I kept my target audience (teenagers) the same as I felt this matched my original idea which was based on answering the question: “How does social media affect depression? ” My piece was slightly longer than I originally intended, comingto about 850 words. • I also created an online magazine which wasn’t an original intention but I decided on when I did my research into Teen Vogue and found out they are now 100% online and I didn’t just want to do a paper copy when Teen Vogue is an online publication now.

Original Intentions I created these pictures by editing them to black and white into photoshop and uploading them (on private settings) to Facebook. This made It easy for me to screenshot and put onto my In. Design document. I used a caption to show cruel social media can be.

Original Intentions – Radio • I originally chose radio journalism as I could interview different age groups about their experiences/ thoughts on my topic but in the end I only interviewed one person as I thought it was more affective and also not a lot of people are happy to open up about their experiences. • I also had difficulties after my pitch as I realised that BBC Radio 2 was aimed more towards the older generation so I had to change my target audience to the older generation for radio. I thought this was a good idea actually as it made parents aware of the dangers of social media on mental health as well as the teenage users. • I also said my piece would be about 10 minutes but, even with the music, this time space was actually rather hard to fill. It ended up only being about 6. 20. • I also learnt from previous experience and made sure everything was in the correct format and correctly backed up.

Obstacles – Magazine I think the topic I chose bought up quite a lot of personal obstacles for me as I am handing in a piece of work based on my own mental health issues and this is quite scary. I didn’t find it tricky writing down how I felt but I found it hard adding in statistics as I felt it was turning how I felt into numbers and I didn’t like that. I had difficulties with creating an online magazine as I find the software's quite challenging which meant concentrating really hard on what I’m doing but I managed to do it without any troubles as I’d practiced using it a few times at home.
Obstacles – Radio • I found my radio a bit tricky as I kept pressing the wrong buttons and saving my segments in the wrong format which meant I couldn’t edit until it was. I overcame this by booking another space in the radio studio so I could make sure it was all in the correct format before editing.
How I feel… • Personally, I’m quite happy with my finished products although I feel my radio interview could’ve blended in with the rest of it more. This was the only thing that I would’ve liked to change given more time. I think this wasn’t down to my own lack of effort but due to people not being available at certain times due to their own college courses. I would’ve liked to, over the year, have developed my online magazine software skills as this would’ve helped me greatly in making my fmp perfect. Overall though, I am quite happy with my results.
