My Internship at DREAM PICS Project Summary by
My Internship at DREAM PICS Project Summary by Yael Marans ’ 21
Alumni Partner My alumni partner was Mr. Peter Daneker, who volunteered as a baseball coach with DREAM for many years and now serves as the Vice-Chair of DREAM’s Board of Directors. He was a great resource throughout my internship, and he always made sure to say hi when he was at the office for meetings. It was nice to hear about his connection to DREAM, especially since part of my job was communicating with board members like him about new developments.
Responsibilities I would help upload files to Salesforce, the database DREAM uses to keep track of files and donations. I would help staff fundraising events, including the annual gala at Cipriani in midtown Manhattan. I would help communicate with donors and companies that wanted to send groups to volunteer with us.
Team Sponsorship Stewardship Each summer, DREAM runs little league baseball as part of its summer program, which also helps kids avoid summer literacy loss. The teams practice their reading skills together, sharpen their baseball skills, and face off in high-intensity baseball games. Many of the teams are sponsored by partner copororations or private donors. One of my main responsibilities was working on team sponsorship stewardship. This entailed collecting photos and quotes from the students and sending updates to donors on how their teams were coming along. In this picture I am wearing a DREAM shirt, visting one of the summer program sites to take pictures!
Conclusion My summer at DREAM showed me how meaningful and dynamic an office setting can be. I got to work with a passionate, professional, group of people on the Advancement Team. They led by example by cheering each other on, as well as offering the interns support and enthusiasm. They showed me that fundraising work can be driven by passion for an organization’s mission and that it can be a rewarding process of focusing on and developing a long-term project. Over the course of the internship, I improved my skills working with Salesforce, giving elevator pitches, and organizing financial data. I am grateful to have had this opportunitty to grow and explore the fields of non-profit management and development. Special thanks to Mr. Marc Brahaney (’ 77) and DREAM. Their generosity helped make my internship possible, and I am grateful for that.
