Achievement #1: My Slam Poem
Here is a video of me reciting my slam poem, simply titled, 'Friends'
Reflection ◦ Why did I select this achievment? I chose this achievement because it shows my passion for writing. I based my slam poem on some rough times in my life, and I wanted to express the feelings of anger and hurt that I had bottled up inside of me. I worked so hard on it, to get my message across. I ended up getting an amazing mark for it and received really touching feedback from my teacher. I personally believe my slam poem was a standout from my English 9 class last semester. ◦ How does it represent my growth? Before my English class, I never dabbled with slam poetry. I have always enjoyed writing and poetry, but never something like this. When my teacher assigned this, he said, "Write something your passionate about. " And I did. Over the course of two days I wrote this, and I truly felt my emotion when I read it to my class. As mentioned before, I'm extremely proud of it. ◦ What were some of my challenges? A big challenge I faced was writer's block. Sometimes I had no idea where to go with it. How I overcame this was by focusing on the message I was trying to write about and follow my own intuition. Since this was personal topic, I just had to express my thoughts and feelings ◦ What are my goals for the future? For Grade 10 I selected Creative Writing as my English class of choice, and my goal is to progress my writing with help of my past knowledge, as well as continuing to express myself creatively.
Achievement #2: My Business from Marketing 9
Here are some pictures from my business! One of the candles I made! Me at my market stand! (The picture quality is slightly off)
Reflection ◦ Why did I select this achievement? In my Marketing 9 class we were tasked to create our own businesses. I decided to start a business called 'Lumi. Candles', where I made my own candles to sell at the winter market. I chose this achievement because I had never made my own business before. I have done simple fairs in the past, but this was different. We had to design advertisements, buy supplies, learn about finances, such as expenses, inventory, and revenue. It was a lot of hard work. I also had to learn the candle-making process, how to properly melt the correct wax and scent method. I also decorated the jars that I put my candles in. ◦ How does it represent my growth? I showed my growth a lot during this assignment. As mentioned before, I worked hard on a new aspect: creating a business. I learned a lot in that class that I will hold on to if I ever need to become an entrepreneur again. Since I worked by myself, all the decisions and work were all up to me. ◦ What were my challenges? I experienced a lot of challenges. I messed up a lot of my finances and went way over my budget with supplies. Also, I never made any big sales compared to some of the other group. People did by my candles, but some just wanted to browse around. How I overcame these challenges was by just breaking through the issues and putting my thoughts first. I just had to figure things out. All I could do with the lack of sales was to make my stand as presentable as I could. ◦ What are my goals for the future? Though I'm not continuing with business classes next year, I will take all the information I learned from Entrepreneurship & Marketing 9, and I will use it when it is u seful.
Achievement #3: Being a cast member of Frozen Jr (outside of school)
MY SCRIPT FOR FROZEN JR!
Reflection Why did I select this achievement? I have mentioned in pass DL assignments that I'm very passionate about musical theatre. This year with my theatre group we are doing a production of Frozen Jr. We have finished the all group routines in the show as of now, and we are off for sping break. I chose this because I love this whole business, the show, and my cast members who have become second family. I am not on an organized team, so theatre is my sport. I am very excited for our performances in May. We always work hard to make any show a success. How does it show my growth? The growth I show are that my voice and acting skills have improved alongside the time of practicing this show. I take vocal lessons now, so my singing has gotten a lot better. And Frozen is such a high energy show, so we must emote, no matter how important our roles are. A lot of things are expected of us at this level of theatre and production. What were my challenges? I have faced a few challenges so far. When we were first doing auditions for Frozen, my audition went so bad. When I had to do scene work for the mandatory class callbacks, things just weren't going the way I wanted. But I knew I just had to do my best, because the fun stuff begins after you get the cast list and the practices start. I know I have my friends' support, and we all raise each other up because we all want the same goal: a successful show. What are my goals for the future? My goals are to continue working hard for the show after our break, and our hard work and fun pays off when we present the show to the audience.
