My digital footprint By Logan Harrington
What does a digital footprint do? • Your Digital footprint affects your personal brand future opportunities for post-secondary. Because you are publicizing your personal life, it can affect you in ways that negatively impact your application.
My digital footprint • When I googled my full name on google, I found nothing about myself in the 15 pages that I looked at. When I looked up my full name and then port moody, the first thing that I found was my instagram profile. In terms of my digital footprint. I don’t have a big footprint and unless you knew which city I live in and my full name, you would an extremely hard time finding me.
How can a digital footprint affect you? • The ways that your digital footprint could affect you is that when an employer is looking you up, they could see the bad things that you have put on your social media. Bad things that you have put on social media is drinking, swearing vaping/smoking and other things that aren't appropriate. When you apply to colleges and universities, they will also look you up too see whether you would be good for the school or not and if you have the bad things listed above then you would have a slim chance of ever getting into that school. It is important to be aware of your digital footprint so that you will be able to see what other people can see and find out about you. For a lot of people, you can find out a lot of stuff based on just a google search on their name. You can find out their school, work, address, interests, etc.
First strategy to keep digital footprint safe and appropriate • The first strategy that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe is to keep your account private. When you keep your account private, then you have full control over who can access and see things on your social media. If your account isn't private, then anyone is able to see what you post and sometimes that could be very bad.
Second Strategy • The second strategy is to only post stuff that you would want your grandmother can see. Even if your account is private and you pick who can see what you post, doesn’t mean that other people won't be able to access it. Someone that you let follow you can always show other people what you posted so they are not always safe.
Third Strategy • The third strategy is to set a different, strong password for every account that you have. You want to do this so that if one of your account passwords gets compromised then the rest of your accounts won't be able to get accessed and hacked into. If someone gets the one password that you use for all of your accounts, then they will be able to access everything about you including the private things that you don’t want anyone knowing about you
