Work Environment Most veterinarians work in private clinics/hospitals, while some others work on farms. Veterinarians who treat large animals, such as horses and cows, travel between farms and ranches. This job can be very loud and chaotic because of scared or sick animals.

Veterinary medical colleges typically require people to have taken science classes including biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, zoology, microbiology, and animal science. Most also require math, humanities, and social science courses. When choosing applicants to go into Veterinary school, people look at experience. Having even a little experience working with animals can be helpful.

Job Outlook Veterinary employment is expected to grow 9% in the next 10 years. The number of graduates per year has increased, creating more competition.
