Summary Martin Luna, who was living in southern California, deep in the ghetto was just hanging out with his boys. However, Martin has a little brother named Eric. He always revolved his world around Martin but today wasn’t the best day for Eric. Seeing Martin in the distance he races to go see him, but right before he gets to him a white car with tinted windows shoots poor little Eric. Martin sees this tragedy right before his eyes and wants revenge. Luckily Martin’s mother ends up getting him out of trouble and moved to the fictional city of Bluford where Martin enrolls into Bluford High with the troubled memory of Eric bleeding out in his arms.
Quote I loved 1)“Whoever shot him tore a hole through my heart too, a black hole that, instead of blood, gushed only a desire for revenge”(11 -12). I loved this quote because it describes how bad Martin wants to gain revenge for Eric. It expresses how devastated Martin is from Eric’s death. 2)“you are coming with me, so I can save you, mijo”(12). I loved this quote because how simple but powerful it is. Martin’s mother just told him they're moving and he has to go to a new high school, Bluford. Martins’ mom is trying to move to keep Martin out of trouble since she knows what happened to Eric.
Recommendation I recommend this book to anyone who is into reading about a tough teenagers life. A life filled with death, revenge, and rivalry. When I first started reading this book I couldn’t put it down, it’s an extremely great read.
