READY? Topic: Comparing direct and inverse variation Pre. K-12 Mathematics
Explain why in the equation y = kx the value of y would have to get smaller if x is getting larger. Give an example. Pre. K-12 Mathematics
Make a table of values for each of the equations. Then identify the relationship as wither direct variation or inverse variation. Pre. K-12 Mathematics
Make a table of values for each of the equations. Then identify the relationship as wither direct variation or inverse variation. Pre. K-12 Mathematics
In each of the problems below, y varies inversely as x. Find the value of the indicated variable. Pre. K-12 Mathematics
Lesson Essential Question How do I adapt my strategies for solving equations and systems of equations when the equations include square root expressions? Pre. K-12 Mathematics
Lesson 3: Finding Your Roots A Solidify Understanding Task Pre. K-12 Mathematics
Using these instructions, find the length of the original swing before Taska made adjustments. Show your steps and explain how you are using Tehani’s instructions to solve for x.
Trevor’s friend Mateo is on the engineering team in charge of planning the escape routes for the Tarzan: Escape from the Jungle swing ride. They want the routes to intersect at various points during the ride in order to increase thrill of the riders as they encounter potential collisions with other riders. Of course, these impending collisions will be carefully timed in order to avoid actual danger. Mateo has come to Trevor to discuss the mathematics of modeling some of the escape routes, since he is less familiar with the square root functions which are being used in the mathematical description of some of the routes.
How would you answer Trevor’s question?
How would you explain the issue that confused Trevor and Mateo? Was their algebra incorrect, or has something else created this extra solution? Mateo knew that he had an extraneous solution by examining the graph of the system. If he didn’t want to create an accurate graph of the system, how else might he check his algebraic work for extraneous solutions?
SET? Topic: Transforming the square root function, solving a square root function
State the domain and range of each function in the following graphs.
State the domain and range of each function in the following graphs.
State the domain and range of each function in the following graphs.
Find the points of intersection of the two functions. Then solve the system algebraically to check your answer. Identify the extraneous root.
