Fermilab and Muon Collider • • • Joint partnership of Univ. of Chicago and Universities Research Association (URA) Manages Fermilab on behalf of DOE Fermilab initiated and hosted the Muon Accelerator Program (MAP) – MAP, created in 2010, was to unify the DOE supported R&D in the U. S. aimed at developing the concepts and technologies required for Muon Colliders and Neutrino Factories. • Mu. Cool Test Area (MTA) at Fermilab – Unique accelerator R&D facility to test components for a muon ionization cooling channel – 400 -Me. V proton beam into the experimental hall, a clean room for component assembly, 201 and 805 MHz rf power, several rf cavities, a 5 -Tesla superconducting solenoid for cavity tests, diagnostic instrumentation for radiation measurements, and infrastructure for liquid hydrogen. MTA • MICE at RAL – Played a critical role • Physics studies were led by Fermilab scientists, Estia Eichten and Chris Hill. 7/3/2020 Young-Kee Kim (U. Chicago), Muon Collider Collaboration Meeting 3
