Multiplying a Polynomial by a Monomial.
Objective The student will be able to: Multiply a monomial and a polynomial.
Review: When multiplying variables, add the exponents! 1) Simplify: 5(7 n - 2)

Multiply Polynomials by Polynomials (3 Methods)
Objective The student will be able to: multiply two polynomials using the FOIL method, Box method and the distributive property.
There are three techniques you can use for multiplying polynomials. 1)Distributive Property 2)FOIL 3)Box Method
Distributive Property 1) Multiply. (2 x + 3)(5 x + 8)
Distributive Property
FOIL Method ONLY used when you multiply 2 binomials F tells you to multiply the FIRST terms of each binomial O tells you to multiply the OUTER terms of each binomial. I tells you to multiply the INNER terms of each binomial. L tells you to multiply the LAST terms of each binomial.
Remember, FOIL reminds you to multiply the: First terms Outer terms Inner terms Last terms
Box Method This method works for every problem! • 3 x 5 x +2 -5
Box Method This method works for every problem!
Box Method This method works for every problem!
You cannot use FOIL because they are not BOTH binomials. You must use the distributive property or box method. Using Distributive Property
